We've been working on improving existing systems since version 2.5, Subscription, Quest Tracking, Tutorial, Electrum Shop, etc, and new content as well.

First-run Cross-server PvP Wrap-up
First fight of the brand new Cross-server PvP came to an end on Sunday, we're glad to see players enjoying the fierce competition. The defeated Nexans have started pouncing back to retake lost ground, and there are new challengers as well. The higher the rank, the closer the epic Steam Griffon becomes. Can't wait to see the next round fired up.

Time to stand firm!

Tower of Peril really lives up to its name, waves of mobs with sick Power maliciously lurk on each layer of the Tower. All players have a chance to assemble an awesome the Steam Scorpion if they can survive as many Layers as possible or strike it rich with opening up some Chest (it's rare of course!).

What 2.6.1 Brings In?

In 2.6.1, we will overhaul the Crafting system; all functions inside it will be reworked and the new interface will be more friendly and easy to understand. Catalyst will be completely unnecessary in the new Crafting system but we are not simply removing it -all Catalysts will turn into something valuable instead. As the development and testing are not completed yet, the preview screenshots are pretty rough (but still can see the difference):

In addition, 2.6.1 will introduce a new in-game currency called Bound Electrum which replaces the old Spiremarks, which still can be viewed on the Shop interface. It looks like Electrum and can be used in exactly the same way (purchasing items from the Electrum Shop, etc), but it’s Purple and bound to your character. Anything purchased with bound electrum is, you guessed it, bound. People with remaining catalysts after the upgrade will exchange them for Bound Electrum, which is a good trade.

Welcome to the brand new version 2.6, a major update that brings in Inter-server Wars that yields new enormous mounts like the Steam Griffon and a large expansion (Tower of Peril) to the end-game that keeps things competitive even at the level cap. You can also visit the following URL to know about new features of the update:

• Added new Tower of Peril daily tasks;

But please set it from "Indie" to "AAA" in your profile, because it`s a little bit misleading when a developer funded for years by a joint venture including a huge investement company calls himself "indie".

Truly, we clearly believe we are indie.The story goes: 3 guys pooled their money and quit a big game publisher/developer company 3 years ago and started making our current project working out of a rented apartment. 2 years of paying themselves around $200/month brings us to when the money was running out. We posted videos of our game everywhere and a year ago an investor saw them. As of March we've got the money to finish the project, pay ourselves enough to eat, have an actual office and expand the scope of the game. By no means is the investment or the terms attached, attractive but we want to finish our game.
Does this investment make us less 'indie'? I don't think so, the vision is still there, the focus on creating the game we had always hoped to came true. We still work ridiculous hours and take on a variety of roles. Our new found motivation comes from attending GDC China, with a great response to our early game build. We now have just enough money to finish, get the word out and tell people about our game.

Sounds like the pinnacle of what most Indie outfits strive to achieve. You had a dream and were given the means to let that dream reach a wider audience while still having it remain your own. Bravo!

Not sure why this ended up here - I was quipping at the AAA argument. You guys arent being lead by a leash from Ubisoft or EA - you make your own choices and create your own dreams. Thats why the indies are so great.

1. One, such as a studio or producer, that is unaffiliated with a larger or more commercial organization.
2. An artistic work produced by an independent company or group

When you get sponsors that are linked to another equal, or larger size company, then you are indie. So both of you are wrong. The game is indie if the sponsor is not of another company of any kind. If the donation is from a equal, or larger sized company of any sort, then it is not indie.

TL;DR = This game is Indie until another company joins them, or sponsors/donates to them. So stop trying to make indie sound deep and meaningful.

“An indie is someone who designs apps with total freedom both financially and creatively and is motivated by passion, not money." That is the definition from Doug Davies. Wikipedia defines "an indie dev shop as one that is not owned by a publisher, thus retaining control of their development pipeline. They may choose to work with a publisher, or self publish, and still remain independent."Greg Holsclaw's definition for indie studio: "An indie studio is a group of indie developers who design apps with total freedom both financially and creatively and are motivated by passion." So, different people have different opinions and definitions, the key is freedom, control and vision/passion. We all have them, so, it's just a matter of understanding of Indie.:)

AAA title is not what we are making, we can not compete with Blizzard or EA. The investment gives us the financial support to make our dream come true and let people know our game. Yeah, we now have 30 or 40 people ,like you said, technically, we are not INDIE, but spiritually and behaviorally, we are still INDIE. The point is not the investment itself, the point is what we are creating is still the same one as we started more than 1 year ago.:)

Even on the very lowest settings City of Steam sets an impressive graphical standard for browser gaming. Actually, all 3D levels are packaged into small 1-3MB downloads.
