Celestial Impact is a team multiplayer FPS taking place on asteroids with spherical gravity. The game is unique in that the landscape can be deformed in every direction. Players can add or remove terrain during combat by aiming and firing a special tool called Dirtgun. Celestial Impact is a PC game developed in Sweden that started with a few university students having an idea of an unusual and fun game. The idea evolved into a larger spare-time project and has now reached a fully playable version.

It has now gone two months since we released the public beta 7 of Celestial Impact. The response has been great and if you missed it you can still try it out!

Work has continued for an new public beta with bugs resolved and new features, some requested from the beta testers. The biggest change will be a new renderer much more optimized so the requirements of the hardware will be lower.

Key new features in beta 8 will be:
+ New renderer (much faster)
+ Melee weapon
+ Another player model
+ Windows Vista support
+ Linux and FreeBSD dedicated server support

Images showing the new melee weapon and the new player model (more screens can be found in the image gallery).

The bloom has not been fully tweaked yet. Some people seem to think it's too much while others really like it. We are working on finding a balance where both sides are somewhat satisfied.

There is actually a way to turn it off completely. Just set r_bloom to 0 in the console.

Whoops, yeah you're right.
It's not totally safe for all graphics card to turn that off without having errors in the rendering. Hopefully we will be fixing that while we're looking over the bloom as a whole.

Thanks for all the positive comments folks. We're planning on posting updates more regularly now to give you all a better insight on how we're progressing.
