Arguably the most well-known indie game of all time, Cave Story+ features a completely original storyline wrapped with personality, mystery and hours of fast-paced fun. Cave Story+ is an action-adventure game that is critically acclaimed indie game. Overflowing with unmatched charm and character, Cave Story+ takes you into a rare world where a curious race of innocent rabbit-like creatures, called Mimigas, run free. Run, jump, shoot, fly and explore your way through a massive action-adventure reminiscent of classic 8 and 16-bit games. Cave Story+ features higher resolutions, tons of new art and music, along with content not available in the original version.
I only played this once, on a desktop PC I rarely use anymore, but one of these days I ought to play it again. Cave Story is a masterpiece. Its characters leave as much of an impression on you as the cast of a Pixar film, its atmosphere of wonder and mystery approximates that of the first two seasons of "Lost," and its art design looks like an old-school Nintendo game taken over by Studio Ghibli. The weapons are tons of fun to use, the music will get stuck in your head (I mean that in the best possible way) and the action can get overwhelmingly hectic, but that makes it all the more exhilarating once you actually do make it to the next save point alive. I would talk about how good the story is too, but half the fun is figuring it out on your own. Play it.
I've never really been into 2D platformers, so that is going to significantly impact my rating of this game.
This game was highly recommended to me by some friends, and I feel like it didn't live up to the hype that they gave it, which can ruin pretty much any game. It was a cute and some-what unique game, but I found myself getting pretty bored with it pretty quickly.
None-the-less, it seems like it was really well developed and the art style is pretty phenomenal.
I didn't like Cave Story that much. It's very weird and you get to play as a stupid robot. Why stupid? Stays so long so his friends get captured, muted, etc.
And mostly i hate the character design. They're saying some random sh*t if i can say so example: "I am number one in this village!"
The translation is very stupid then since this is a japanse game. I wish it could be better but the music and art is good. I'm not reviewing Cave Story+ but instead of that the original since there's no Cave Story in ModDB.
3/10 - Could have been better
One of the best known indie games ever made, and one of the best, if not THE best, metroidvania game of all time. I love metroidvania games and this is how you do one right. Seriously, I have a hard time thinking of games of this type that I enjoy more. My only complaint is that some of the save points are not ideally located, forcing you to re-do certain parts over and over if you keep dying. But even that is a minor complaint. If you don't own this game already, buy it. It's worth it.
This game is marvelous.
The storyline is unique and interesting! I really loved following it and watching the cutscenes. It has such a retro game feel, which I love to bits.
The MUSIC. Oh goodness, the music. It is spectacularly composed and fits the game perfectly. I found myself downloading a few tracks of the game to my phone!
Graphics are well done, really. I love the art style. I can't really put it into words.
The gameplay is simply fun. I played this game so many times, even after I beat it the first time. It's short, yeah, but in the end, it doesn't subtract from the main experience.
