This game is nothing short of amazing. It has everything a platformer should have, and then some.
This is one of those games that everyone should play at least once. Truly a masterpiece.

i think, i´ll not download it for free. i ll buy the wii ware version. i wan´t to pay for it!
But, it's important to support independant developper. :)
There seems to be a problem with save files on Linux - every time I run Desura it wants to reinstall the game and my saves are gone :-(.
While not a great fix, this seems to work. When the game needs to be reinstalled (It will say Not Ready in the list menu, go into the desura/common/cave-story folder and copy the Profile.dat file. That is your save game file. After reinstalling Cave Story, put the Profile.dat file back in. Now you can continue where you last saved.
btw. when I tried playing it on Fedora it somehow wasn't able to locate a linker lib,
probably because Fedora ppl just mess around and put all 64bit libs in /lib64.
(Strangely enough ldd found it just fine..)
Made a symlink in /lib, and everything works nice.
Played this a little bit some time ago when I got it off the website, but now I gave it more time and got hooked - this is one great game!
