This game is nothing short of amazing. It has everything a platformer should have, and then some.
This is one of those games that everyone should play at least once. Truly a masterpiece.

someone managed to get a joypad working with this game on linux?
I found it's on desura/common/cave-story
But I can't manage to get my controller working.
this is on linux? since when?
No mirrors to install it currently.
You can use Dresura to play it under Linux.
confirmed, it works on linux mint 64bits
Attempting to run Cave Story on Arch Linux 64bit causes Desura to crash, with an error about the wrong JPEG library version. (getting 80, and it wants 62)
If I get the 3DS version, will that still be supporting pixel?
For those who are running 64bit Ubuntu and unable to run, this will fix the issue of the "file not found" error. It's because it's looking for a library at a hard coded location not provided. Simply run the following command and it will run:
sudo ln -s /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 /lib/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2
Enjoy your 64bit cave story.
In openSUSE 11.4 (64bits)
sudo ln -s /lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 /lib/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2
And.....
Yeah!!! works perfectly
Do both. By getting the PC version it shows the developer that PC users want these games just as much as console players do. Getting only the console version tells the developer that you have no interest in PC gaming and only encourages developers to not bother developing for PC and only go for console markets.
