PSP Version Status:

  • Scoped weapon support and Iron sights added
  • some code cleanup (mostly engine warnings)
  • Switched back to QMDL format due the bad animation quality of MD2
  • Playermodels texture got improved
  • PSP version will get one "major" release and a few bugfixes
  • I will leave the PSP "sector" after this game is finished

DarkPlaces Version Status:
*

  • Will be coded from scratch and make use of some DP features
  • Better modelformats and HD textures
  • Quake 3 BSP for maps
  • requires a fast PC / Device
  • Should run on every platform (PC and Android are our test platforms)

* I have plans to switch over to the Darkplaces engine and abandon the PSP platform after im
finished with CoW1944 PSP. So im not 100% sure if im going to port CoW1944 to DP, it can
be everything... Maybe even a totally new game, so the DP port of CoW1944 isnt a promize.

Also sorry, no screenshots for this time, theres nothing new to see.

I doubt this game is going to have any replay value.

And I doubt anyone cares what you think. The fact that it includes a Skirmish mode makes it very re-playable.

I don't expect anyone to care, however that some people take the dead PSP scene to extreme heights. It's not hard to realize that the PSP is almost 11 years old and there are better alternatives than the PSP. Notable example is Android or the PC indie scene, to get into Android gaming you could save up for an Nvidia Shield, Nexus Tablet or a cheap Chinese THL T6S smartphone to play Minecraft, COD Zombies, GTA SA, and plenty more great games that I believe the dev for COW would rather develop for. The PC indie scene is full of great games and PC has become more and more affordable to start gaming on. You can build a $400-$600 PC that can run Battlefield 4 at 1080p Medium or Ultra Settings. Some laptops cost that much and can't even touch BF4. ScatterBOx got a Small Form Factor PC with a mid-range GPU that can run BF4 at 1080p Medium Settings @60FPS and I believe it was $500ish. The point this there are better alternatives than the PSP scene which most PSP indie games you wouldn't play for an hour or so.

Heh, the PC was actually just over $400.

While I do agree that the PSP is very old and has bad hardware, it can be a stepping stone for developers. Just look how huge NZP is, it just shows that the scene is still alive.

But if you're looking to play actual, quality, non Quake engine games, (or even Quake engine games) build yourself a quick PC. It's worth it. Also keep your PSP too though since it's still awesome, obviously. =D

Just be happy that in the UK you don't have 10 year contracts for every internet, phone or TV service.
And be happy that you guys aren't drowning in debt
And that your country has some pretty damn good food

By the looks of it, you would play a game that has a short campaign, a skirmish mode that is just mindless shooting at bullet sponges and find it to have replay value. This game doesn't offer anything new to the table, it's basically a generic WW2 shooter on the PSP that are hyping for some reason. Medal of Honor has already done that on the PSP and I would rather play that game over COW:1944.

To say its replay value is very little would have to do with the persons interests. I personally feel that, since it has a MP or skirmish mode, the replay value is much higher than a game that has only a campaign. And mindless shooting at bullet sponges? Isn't that what Medal of Honor Heroes 1 was? And it had hours upon hours of replay-ability. Also, worth noting is: MOH:H made tons of money off of their game, despite 30% of people with a PSP Pirating their copy. While COW is free.

You would be playing with bots most of the time and playing with bots gets kind of old after 30 minutes. Stating that MOH is just mindless shooting only enforced my point that MOH has already accomplished what COW is trying to do and COW brings nothing new to the table. Playing something I've seen before but at a lower scale limits the replay value which is also I would play MOH over COW.

MOH:H sold under 3 million copies according to vgchartz.com
Vgchartz.com

Stating COW is free doesn't strengthen your point, it contradicts with what you said. The >3 million people aren't going to come back to the PSP and play COW nor do they even know this game exists.

Well, stating it was free to in reply to how, if it had no reply value, people wouldn't feel disappointed that they didn't get their money's worth, but it's free so, no money will be lost.

"Bots get old after 30 minutes" That's more of an opinion really. And ~3 million copies? I'm sure Mabuse would love to make that kind of money.I completely disagree on what you said about the money not strengthening my point. If Mabuse had the tools and money invested in the COW like the Creators of Medal of Honor had, it would have been much more.

I think it's fair to say we both disagree with each other. If you want, continue this in a PM. I'll be more than happy to discuss it with you. One of the reasons Mabuse made me a Mod on this page is to clean messes like this up. So, any comments that do not have to do with COW, please hesitate from posting, otherwise, I will delete your comments.

Imo, Mabuse shouldn't release this for free, he should take it to a publisher (An ACTUAL one, not one that would milk the series to death like Activision and EA)

Or he should actually make us pay for the game.

While his opinion doesn't make much sense in the context of this game, I don't think it's very fair to down vote him and say that no one cares what he thinks. (Not saying you were the one that down voted him, just for the people that did) It's his opinion and he should be entitled to speak it.

Actually, I did downvote him. And as much as it's his opinion to say whatever he wants, it's also my opinion to either down or upvote him. I've said this before, and I'll say it again: No one should be upset at downvotes. I mean, it's clearly either someone who disagrees with you, or is a troll. Their opinion, which is all it is, shouldn't matter to you. If it makes anyone feel any better, I generally up all comments that aren't obnoxious.

Mabuse is wondering how many of you guys will play his game once it's released. I think he thinks that all the hard work going into this game is only going to affect a small group of people. I disagree. I think loads of people will play COW. I mean, L4Q was silent before a release, now that it's had a demo out, more people have begun to play and follow this game. What do ya'll think? Will you play COW?

i made a long playtest last night, and the game is already very polished, the only thing i dont really like (and needs work) is the maps... TDM matches becomes too boring fast because sometimes you know where the bots came from xD

I'm sure more people will download than any of us know. Once it gets released there will be a surplus of YouTube videos/forum links showing that there's a good COD like FPS on PSP and the game will probably blow up, just like NZP.

Well, tell Mabuse that, so he's not so down when making it.

He thinks only like 6 or 7 people will play it, when, in reality it's like 10,000 times more than that amount of people. Besides NZP, COW is the most viewed PSP Quake Mod on Moddb. More so than L4Q, SOL, and CON.
