The ghost of dedicated servers continues to haunt Modern Warfare 2, as the flawless IWNet has been apparently struck down with a Trojan virus.

I'm happy that Iwnet is falling apart, serves right the developers.

The ghost of dedicated servers continues to haunt Modern Warfare 2, as the flawless IWNet has been apparently struck down with a Trojan virus. Infinity Ward's replacement for dedicated servers has allegedly been hacked by a nefarious MW2 clan who are using a mixture of DLL files and guest clients' open ports in order to spread the Trojan to those who log into IWNEt and play the game.

There is a chance that it's simply an Antivirus program picking up something benign. Tech savvy gamers are trying to find the root of the issue, but there is a fear spreading, and people are warned to be careful when playing Modern Warfare 2 on a PC.

Real or not, this is not something Infinity Ward will live down easily. After promoting IWNEt as a better alternative to PC gamers' beloved dedicated servers, the last thing IW needs is a Trojan infesting the service. Still, that's what happens when you spring a whole new service on people a month before a game's launch. While I may not fully support all the complaints and boycotting over MW2, I can certainly agree that this is very shoddy stuff indeed.

There is a lot of egg on the faces of Infinity Ward spokesmen today, methinks.

More good news:

The first thing many hackers do once gaining access to a games innards is start screwing around. We saw that when folks shoved the developer console back into Modern Warfare 2, setting up servers and gametypes with wild gravity, infinite grenades and that sort of thing.

Once the elation dies down, the next thing they do is start exploring, and if these rumors are true, they've turned up a few gems that might have impact on console players in the future.

A post on the official Infinity Ward forums claims that the developer console can be used to activate a number of elements that aren't present in the game in its unaltered, console-less state, including several multiplayer modes.

By starting private matches and inputting a number of console commands, players are supposedly able to turn on a "Global Thermonuclear War" mode, an objective-based gametype that has players scrambling to capture - and detonate - a nuke placed somewhere on the map. Assassination/VIP-escort modes and variations on capture the flag were also allegedly unlocked and tested.

The post has since been removed from the IW forums, but the text (and associated commands) survive on ModernWarfail2. We've contacted Activision for comment and will update once we receive word.

What do you think of this? Are they scrapped gametypes or planned DLC? Is anyone using the developer console hack on their PC version?

That’s an obvious, fully functional, DLC.

Wow, IW went really low this time. This made me laugh, actually. They obviously locked this stuff because in 2 months they will charge you $10 so they can modify two variables in the game files to enable those modes.

Shame on you IW and Activision, shame on you.

Mw2's character Ghost wil lprobably be getting his own litle game:

Having now charged through Modern Warfare 2's single player twice I am confident that I still have no idea who any of the other guys in the squad are other than Price and Soap. I know there was witty banter going on here and there, but it's hard to pay attention to it when the Russians are trying to rip you to shreds. Evidently, there are some popular characters in the squad and Ghost is one of them. He's so popular in fact that he got his own comic book and now he might be getting his own game. At the launch event for MW2 in the UK Craig Fairbrass, the man who voiced Ghost in MW2 and Gaz in the previous game (conspiracy!), had a few choice words about the future of his masked character.

“I did in the last game a voice for a character called Gaz and in this game I’m now voicing a guy called Ghost, who now just got a spin-off comic of his own and they’re talking about another little game to go with it,” Fairbrass said, “so, I’m quite excited about it. It’s grown and grown and grown.”

He was then questioned on why people got so excited over Ghost and responded, “I don’t know. It’s the whole thing I suppose of not knowing who he is. He’s like the head of the SAS and… I’m just so thrilled to be a part of it, I mean it just gets bigger and bigger each year.”

"Another little game" to go along with a comic book sounds like some flash game that accompanies the comic book's launch, but who knows. Since the world is evidently unsure of who he is, and people who paid attention to the game's characters have become attached to him, this could be a big time spin-off.

Half dedicated servers

Total I38 Tournament fail

Touted as “the first ever tournament for Modern Warfare 2″, it was an utter disaster. (Just like how everyone expected it to be)

I quote ATGxGhost from the Infinityward.com forums.

Firstly, just as we managed to get a team sorted after two of our teams got removed due to age restrictions and we had to run around the event getting those members old enough into the same channel on vent so we could take part, then just as we hit the start of our first match, we spent 30 minutes trying to figure out the error about our playlist being either out of date or newer, we then got to enjoy the 5 minute lag everytime we started up the game due to steam friends and xfire not getting along, when we did finally get both teams into the same private match lobby, we spent a further 20 minutes getting the settings right so we could play according the tournament ruleset. When the match finally started it was dominated by noobtubes as we were stuck using default classes incase some people hadnt ranked up at all to unlock different weapons

As you can see, competitive gaming is completely ruined in MW2. Hell, Activision can’t even manage a tournament. Informing the participants one week before? Hey! That sounds awfully a lot like what they did to us PC gamers. Another fail for Activision. - Modernwarfail2.com

I'm just afraid that they will use this as another reason to just not make PC games anymore besides the "piracy" issue. Funny though I saw a post on newegg when looking at the reviews for a dvd burner and the guy said it burns xbox discs perfectly. So the reason to not make pc games because of piracy is not true, it is occuring quite frequently.
I think the publishers are just getting greedier and lazier.
No SDK for free community mods but we can buy thier DLC?

I tried to play the Multiplaer mode of Call of Duty 4 and my comp said it crashed. The SP mode works fine.

I think its because of this.
