You'll battle cultists, gargoyles, zombies, hellhounds, and an unholy host of other terrors in your quest to stop Tchernobog. You must not only defeat the Cabal--you must scour its dread name from human memory. If that means eradicating everyone and everything the Cabal has ever tainted, so be it. Of course, you'll first have to make your way through fortresses, castles, mines, mansions, and estates guarded and kept by Tchernobog's malevolent servants. Fortunately, it is wits that make the hero, and although you're in serious danger of losing yours, you've got enough left to improvise some pretty effective tools of destruction. Aerosol hairspray can be frightening enough on its own, but apply it to a lighter flame and you've got an instant flamethrower (kids, don't try this at home!). Likewise, a flare gun can brighten your prospects considerably against even the grimmest odds, which is to say nothing for shotguns, Tommy guns, and dynamite. Who knows,...

Absolutely one of the best first person shooters of all time. Fantastic level design, atmosphere, and satisfying combat. The game is very challenging too.

Blood is right off the bat, one of the best games that came out during the golden age of gaming. Heres why, it does take the same route other shooters of the time took, FPS run and gun shooter with exploration based gameplay of looking for secrets. The key difference is most of your weapons are single shot weapons. Meaning that it isn't constant gun blazing. Most of the time your firing only once at each enemy. Or choosing to go with a pitchfork which is another iconic melee weapon that each other FPS game had at the time.

It also has something else unique, its brand of humor. It has so many movie, books, song references its like a walking time machine into the 1990's. Its like the comedy central of video games (like NOLF was for the 60s spy films). It rewards you for finding secret areas with more of these references while giving you more ammunition that the game seems to be a little scarce on.

It also has another thing the other games of its time didn't have. Super Secrets. These are secrets that are not recorded in the end of level statistics... some STILL HAVEN'T BEEN FOUND to this day! They require a 'just by sheer luck' chance of finding. Its speculated that each level has its own 'super secret'.

The story is nothing to applaud but its setting is unique, the whole urban setting of a run down places, cultists, necromancy but oddly lacking satanism (probably because we've seen that in Doom). This game has a special place for me.

The only real criticisms I have would be the bosses. They are not impressive by todays standards, first one was fun & challenging to fight but the 3 bosses after it are very annoying to fight.

It never achieved critical acclaim and I still can't see why. Maybe the other games at the time over shadowed it like Doom, Hexen, Duke Nukem 3d as they came before it. It's also a very difficult game so many might not like that.

greatest game ever! i can play it for hours on end!

too much blood :D
