The on-going space voxel project by the six sibling studio, ZanMgt! A labor of love, Blockade Runner is an ever-evolving development that's currently undergoing a major engine overhaul to provide a solid foundation for the game's bi-weekly builds. Post news Report RSS Editor Part 1: Expanding and Shrinking

Hey there! Its Micah showing off more of the Editor's new tools

Posted by on

Hey all! Micah here with a new video revealing more of the editor's tools, play the video and check it out!

Expand and shrink! These two new tools make creating rough drafts of large ships much easier. Expand works under a simple multiplication premise, where every one block expands into eight blocks. So you can make a small fighter to begin with, then hit expand a couple times to get an equivalent cruiser the same shape as that fighter that you started with.
Shrink is the reverse of expand of course, taking every group of 2x2x2 blocks and converting them down to a single block. Now you'll have to be wary of the fact that when you shrink any thin flanges or short sections will convert down to a single block. So either be wary or just make sure you have undo handy. XD

We've actually found using expand and shrink in combination works really good for hollowing out larger ships. If you clear the blocks within the ship as you expand, you can cut down on a lot of time you would have spent destroying them one at a time. And using shrink you can preview your hollowed ship by expanding up a level, checking out what needs to be done and how it looks, then revert by shrinking so you continue.

So this was the first of many videos revealing new parts of the editor, and we should have more videos soon. Check back soon for new news!

Great work, it's always nice to see people trying something new with blocks instead of same old minecraft clones.
