Highland Riders arrived!

Hello everyone! It took me couple of weeks, but im back with another update, bringing game much closer to the state i want i to be before introducing it to the wider audience. Opening Highlands was important step towards my current goal, leaving Tundra as a last location on "to do" list for planned storyline campaign. Even Highland Riders are important milestone for me personaly, this project is still nowhere near finished and its still nothing more than a "shell" that still have to be filled with features and content before beign enjoyable experience.

For now, highland missions started appearing on the aviable missions list and can be picked up any time you want. All mission modes you knew from wasteland are present including patrol missions and yes, you can finaly farm SUPPLIES currency to improve the base further.

Riders showcase

Highland is home of "RIDERS". Insane and brutal madmen who dont hesitate to use captured nomads as human shield. Relying on light armor, speed and dodging your attacks. I wanted them to be bit more than just reskined Bandits from the wasteland and from my personal playtests i am quite happy with the ressult. You need to utilize new tactics and different weapon loadouts to defeat them with ease. Lets have a look at Rider vehicles individualy.

Bikers are fast, low HP annoying insect. However their high dodge chance can ruin the day of the lone vehicle armed with high alpha, but slow firing weapon as they can dodge the fire really well. These are best dealt using fast firing weapons or mines and damage auras as these can not be dodged. In addition, they can be ran over if you have fast interceptor in your squad like Falcon or Mustang.

Hog is the only vehicle with high armor Riders use. Armed with twin linked machine guns with fixed angle limits this foe to always attack your caravan from behind. Again, use of vehicles with minelayer ability yeld best ressults.

Stinger is light vehicle armed with light flamer. There is nothing special about this one, however you have to remember flamer weapons ignores armor, so dont leave your interceptors tanking these alone for too long.

Rocketeer is Riders long range support vehicle. There is nothing too special about them. All of their attacks can be dodged, however when combined with other attacking vehicles it can hurt your vehicles really bad. Should be dealt asap, thx the engine gods, they dont carry any armor and even lone interceptor can handle these pretty fast.

Shredder carries intimidating buzsaw and have quite a HP pool. Fortunately it does not have the armor of Bandits Killer Van and it rellies on HPs and increased fury shield only. This can be threatening when cought unprepared but focused fire can stop them before their saw can even scratch your vehicles.

Crushers are heaviest vehicles Riders can throw at you. Twin linked 50cal machine guns can deliver quite bit of damage to even your interceptors if not dodged and in addition each crusher carries ligh flamer to repel any vehicle trying to distract its fire from up close.

Tinkerer

Tinkering service is finaly aviable! This little window serves as an enchanting table for your armor items. You can improve your bumpers, suspension or ornaments, sinking your materials while gaining small advantage in battle with each upgrade you make. Use is pretty straightforward, just dont forget your items there as once you ll return from mission, tinkerer will prettend he never saw you before and your item will be gone.

Near future

Main direction is obvious as adding Tundra location as a last location for main storyline is crucial before introducing non enemy factions and reputation system, but what will happen in between? Well, the "to do" list is still pretty long. For next week i want to go back and revise all the code as there is some unnecessary mess i want to clean up beofre moving forward, and to be honest that was the main reason why i did not added any new items in this update as i need to sort out few things before moving forward in this department. After that i can start adding new weapons and more vehicles to finish the initial set before implementing faction and reputation rewards and finaly move on to interesting stuff like enahncing patrol missions with sub quests, more interesting locations(like abandoned tunels, devastated cities, swamplands etc.) and unexpected events.

Is there any way to change controls in 0.22?

How would you want to change point and click?? Or are you suggesting main vehicle steering?(probably couse of azerty keyboards?) If you have any suggestion, let me know. And no, there is not.

Thanks for the quick response, the main vehicle steering is no problem since a have a qwerty keyboard, i meant change the controls in general such as changing the buttons for selecting smaller vehicles to any other buttons or switching from point and click to keyborad only controls or even fully customizable controls , since my right mouse button does not work i have to let anything to luck while in a mission be cause i cant control any of the small vehicles to take out any enemy threats.

PD: sorry for my bad english.

No problem, well sorry about that, but rmb not working is serious problem, i ll include middle mouse button to function same as rmb in next release next weekend just for you untill you ll get new mouse, or i ll introduce customizable controls. Have a nice day!

Played again, now that I know how to control vehicles, it's much more interesting.
I love that I can pick optional routes.

Dust storm flashing hurts eyes, tone it down a bit.

the warcrawler needs more customization like more turrets ala mad max. max *turrets* for the warcrawler is 3 (front machinegunner and 2 spear throwers but for some reason when you upgrade to rocket, it becomes 1 person only.Maybe add a rear gunner? also if possible to get more squaddies 4 to 6? well its already 4 but we *i* want more :D oh, can we get vehicles like what a hero uses? like the old van? and lastly i played 5 times today, it crashed 2 times....

Hi! Thanks for your time spent playing! First - your warcrawler suggestions - it was all there in early version and was abandoned for a reason. However dont worry, there ll be more main vehicles to choose from to suit your needs.
Six escort vehicles - no, it was in game as well, and felt horrible.
New vehicles - dont worry here, there ll be tons of new vehicles. Will try to add one or two with each update.

Crashes - thats great and reports like that are extremely important, however i cant do anything without crash message, please copy/paste in here next time you ll encounter crash, perhaps when testing next build?

Really cool game !
Blocked on medium difficulty, can not get water ressource to upgrade higher difficulty missions... Dunno how to find water :p

great game, just one thing : 360 degrees high range weapon like .50 machine gun is OP , 2 vehicules like that in def, 2 close range 360 degrees that move around to take aggro, and done...

maybe more gadget vehicle slots, like pilot slots and else , and vehicle specialisation to improve customness...

but clearly, great game, i played 2 hours and enjoy it a lot :)

patrol mission is a bit too long for the poor reward, not balanced enough VS assassination wich is instant cash pay. increase reward a lot for patrol. it should give at least a vehicle when completing it.

an ability to ram other vehicle could be useful and fun, i did'nt seen a thing like this in my 2hours game session.

mobility stat is not visible on the vehicle plate.

Again, great work!
just a thing : don't you consider to use Unity instead of gamemaker? you can port this to android and make a great great great success....

finnaly : great work :)

Hi Hotlaim! Thanks for your time testing the game!

Yeah, i locked players at medium difficulty on purpose for now.
Regarding 360 degrees .50cal ... well, belive me it wont be enough on higher difficulties. However, i agree, and its intended - Two interceptors wit explosive weapons to take agro and destroy enemy fury shields + two marauders with .50cals is cool at easy difficulty and even medium if you dont encounter two killer vans at a time. But the need for more specialized crews will emerge with higher difficulties as enemy specific rezistances will grow to the level that initial setups wont be as effective.

Patrol Missions - i have big plans for these and they ll be taken out from mission list and player will be given ability to run them any time. And their reward - they give the best aviable items you cant get anywhere else, they are great place to farm resources, and more stuff for them is comming. In the end - please be patient with Patrols, right now they are just a sketch of what i want them to become.

Raming - is actualy beign considered right now so maybe, but definetly not before i ll introduce better pathfinding.

Mobility - yes, i know, thanks for reminder, ll have to fix that.

Unity over Game Maker & android - well, first of all i would not be able to recreate this in unity. Im not a programer however im stuck at programing and im allready pushing over my limits with this project. And regarding android... well i ll sound like heretic, but i hate current mobile gaming state(last time i enjoyed playing something on cell phone was on my old Sony Ericson), hate google play and dont want to interact with it at all.

Again, thanks for playing the game! I belive all of your issues will be fixed in next few releases so check back after few updates and i belive game wont disapoint you!;-)
