Okay, so what you see here should be pretty self-explanatory (that is if you know the graphics of BF2 fairly well). If not, let me explain.

Battlefield 2 makes use of shadows that are divided into two systems:

1. Dynamic shadows.

This is used on most of all dynamic/moving objects such as soldiers, vehicles and commander assets. The shadows are rendered while playing, and aren't fairly soft on the eyes like what you can see on newer games such as Battlefield 4. They are also pixelated and the draw distance is poor (although it is increased to the limits in this mod). Lastly, these shadows are very limited and was intended to be drawn on only moving objects (hence, calling it dynamic shadows).

Here is an example of dynamic shadows:

2. Lightmaps:

Due to this game being old as it is, back when it was developed the average system couldn't handle and entire map being rendered out with the same type of dynamic shadows explained above. It was too taxing on the graphics card and was therefore left to another system called lightmaps. These shadows are pre-calculated shadows that are overlayed on the terrain and static objects like buildings as a texture. This means that it could be rendered in advanced software such as 3DS MAX in a much higher resolution. By default, the terrain lightmaps are 4096x4096 in resolution that stretches across the entire map, which isn't a lot if you take the large scale of the map into consideration. Now because I have much more control over the lightmaps and access to 3DS MAX, I will render the shadows at more than twice the size that will give much better visuals.

Here are examples of lightmap shadows in HD:

All of those new modders can't mod for ****, it's all started with those CAT guys who started to port weapons from battlefield p4f and then pand it slowly deteriorated that people began to use imported content only (and maybe some little ****** content of their own) and also people started to steal from mods too.
Now we have mods like this ****** Medal of Freedom mod that uses imports only and mix it into rubbish mod and rubbish story line and they started to catch themselves as expert modders...where is the days when mods actually used their own content only? if you will check the last pages of the modding section you will understand how people actually created their own mods with their own content only...there was no such thing called importing from other games or using mostly imported content...people actually tried to mod.
I miss the days when people like InSovietRussia was around and helped the cummunity...I miss the days when mods like Australian Forces and operation peacekeeper stunned us...this days are gone and now we have all this ****** importers like Koala bear's Medal of freedom mod and thieves like Emiliomau that port models from other games and call them his own content.
RIP Good old bf2 days

Well if you hate imports then try my mod I am making new skins textures and stuff. But I didn't start at all. What programs you modders use for making new stuff?

Hey don't blame me, blame mods such as the Medal of Freedom Honor Call of BattleDuty Freedom Phantom Warrior what ever **** its called.

I don't claim to be the best modder but at least we have learnt to make stuff originally. We have had mappers from the beginning and now we have modellers and animators. Think about that next time you point the finger.

This isn't the first time though, I guess not many people like us. I can see why Gordon left.

I agree with Emilio as one of these new modders. There are a few tutorials that cover certain things, mainly mapping and textures. I learn as much as I can from other mods and modders. Also, the ability to use content from BFP4F is a gift. It saves a lot of time but it also opens up thousands of new possibilities.

killed was more than old models that did not pass the knowledge to the new generation. the error was not one of the new

Blue_Spirit Oct 21 2014 replied:

I guess Emiliomau meant that the technique to make models is not passed down to the next generation. The former modders did not make a guide about how to create models like vehicles and guns and render them. After they left the community non or less of the new modders know how to do it. They only know how to port contents since some contents are ready-made. If you want this to stop post a tutorial about how to make own models, not saying rip good old bf2 around. This wont help.

Yes I agree 100% with all that has been said here and of course this totally justifies the reason to port from games that fall under copyrighted laws. Now I can see that the new generation of BF2 modders have shortage of not only morality, but brains as well.

You can browse on Google for tutorials on how to make 3d weapon models like here: so I don't think that is an excuse

[AWWIIR-Dev]m0chil Oct 26 2014 replied:

Yeah, but that kind of tutorials are rather small in amount given the immense time and resources it needs. And most people are lazy nowadays looking for tuts and crap
