In 2009 the fictional post-soviet country of Chernarus is ravaged by civil war. For two crippling years, conflict has raged... Players explore this volatile world with Force Recon Razor Team, part of a US Marine Corps Expeditionary Unit. The 27th MEU are deployed to Northern Chernarus on a peacekeeping mission with a mandate to prevent further civilian casualties and promote political stability. ARMA 2 is based on the latest generation technology. It offers a uniquely vast game world, authentic and extremely detailed modern units, weapons, vehicles and environments. The branching, player-driven campaign can be played solo, or cooperatively and is accompanied by a huge range of single and multiplayer game modes. ARMA 2 is a hardcore military simulator that allows the player to carry out the many different roles of a soldier in combat zones. Its campaign takes place in the 225 square-kilometre fictional ex-soviet state of Chernarus where a bloody conflict is taking place.
this is a huge step up from it's predecessor. from the unit model, the scenery where it took place, the feel of the weapon even the campaign missions have a good story, and let's not forget what this series all about.. the free will to make your own mission, my self i could say as a quite intermediate mission designer can tel this has a much, much powerful Mission Editor. even though the singleplayer missions is still a bit buggy some time to time, i'll have to give this game..
Arma II and it's predecessor the OFP is the military simulation game Linux of all games. Almost every modern conflict after WWI is featured, tons of mods and almost every modern army is there, will a lot of missions and campaigns made by the community. It exists because of the community and what it creates, the game merely being somewhat of an engine for it.
This is your prime game is you want a realistic and full military experience with everything: soldiers, firearms, tanks, helicopters, planes, vehicles, 100km2 maps and even zombie outbreak simulation missions.
The minus is that'll you need at least a basic knowledge about military matters and a large disk space plus good Internet connection. Most mods are at least 1GB large, some campaigns weighting even 600MB. Honestly, it is a product like no other that has quite much influenced the milisim genre to the point that VBS1 and VBS2 was created which is a military-only derivative of the game.
