In 2009 the fictional post-soviet country of Chernarus is ravaged by civil war. For two crippling years, conflict has raged... Players explore this volatile world with Force Recon Razor Team, part of a US Marine Corps Expeditionary Unit. The 27th MEU are deployed to Northern Chernarus on a peacekeeping mission with a mandate to prevent further civilian casualties and promote political stability. ARMA 2 is based on the latest generation technology. It offers a uniquely vast game world, authentic and extremely detailed modern units, weapons, vehicles and environments. The branching, player-driven campaign can be played solo, or cooperatively and is accompanied by a huge range of single and multiplayer game modes. ARMA 2 is a hardcore military simulator that allows the player to carry out the many different roles of a soldier in combat zones. Its campaign takes place in the 225 square-kilometre fictional ex-soviet state of Chernarus where a bloody conflict is taking place.
It's a great military simulator, but it has some very annoying bugs (especially in multiplayer), it feels unfinished and the amount of content which comes with the game is laughable (especially the amount of missions). It almost feels like I'm buying a game engine and must make the actual game myself.
The developer, BIS, has some nice community support - although the game had a lot of bugs in the release version, I can really trust BIS and be sure that the bugs will be fixed by patches. Bohemia also has a very good habit of removing any DRM from their products a few months after release - which is another large point of respect.
If ARMA 2 would just have more multiplayer and singleplayer missions, it'd be one of my favourite games ever. I'm hoping Bohemia would look back what they did with Operation Flashpoint (campaign which had about 40 missions, plus a lot of multiplayer and singleplayer missions) and fix this emptiness when developing their next games. ARMA 2 has a large community which makes missions for it, but often these fan-made missions are varying in quality and looking for a good mission often takes about as much time as it takes you to play that mission. So it doesn't really help the situation.
ARMA 2 is at its best when it's played cooperatively in LAN multiplayer with friends. The AI really gives a challenge, and with the mission editor it's easy (but time consuming) to make exciting and varying missions.
That's about it. 8/10.
Arma 2 is a great game, in a good, but somtimes, wonky game engine.
playing it with friends and multiplayer is extremly good, and teamwork reliant.
but the single player falls flat on its arse, altough this game has a good enemy AI, the friendly AI needs to be babysitted at all times.
otherwise, its a game that should be part of anyones collection.
The grafics are amazing and the game is alot of fun for all who like a realistic and tactical shooter experience. The only problems are the at start difficult controls and the from time to time very bugged AI (driving/flying skills). The campaign is only average but the editor with its unlimited possibillities is just amazing.
All in all it's a really good game for persons who like this genre and I would recommend it.
