ARMA 2 is a hardcore military simulator that allows the player to carry out the many different roles of a soldier in combat zones. Its campaign takes place in the 225 square-kilometre fictional ex-soviet state of Chernarus where a bloody conflict is taking place.
The game features a player-driven, branching campaign in which your actions have consequences. You can choose to win the hearts and minds of the warring factions inside Chernarus, or play them off against one another. Your choices will shape the future country allowing you to ultimately decide which faction (if any) survives to rule.
ARMA 2 has a vast array of military hardware at the players disposal, 73 modern weapons, 167 vehicle variants in the air, on land and at sea all modelled on after the real world counterparts. The game world will feature real-time day/night cycle.

meh, didnt like the first one. Very leery of this one now...
How does ARMA 2 compare with Operation Flashpoint Dragon's Rising? Wich is worthier of the title Operation Flashpoint sequel?
ArmA 2 is an OFP sequel, Dragon's Rising was made from scratch, it has only the name. ArmA 2 is definitely better.

i played the demo but meh. The immersion is there with the weapons, locals, tanks, aircraft, even the parachute. Here is where it started to lose points with me. one big problem was that some control concepts are screwed. i tried to look to the left in a Humvee and it thought i wanted to go left...right into a tree(idk if its an option to turn that off, didn't play it for to long). The next big part was that the realism kept jumping up and waving its arms in front of the fun with the base building stuff (which i didn't even get into) and some concepts being very non user friendly. Now you could say its lazy on my part that i didn't go through the like 150 god dammed commands (yes i mean with shared stuff to) and bind a key that i liked to every one but hey i guess I'm one of those people that thinks its wrong to spend an hour binding keys when I'm only going to get 30 min of fun out of it. I think its just because its way to realistic for it's own good. but hey if you like it don't even respond to this unless you have a niggling little doubt in the back of your mind that's going "your not having as much fun as you think you are" and it wont go away no mater what you do.
Guys take some time to research the different key bindings - they might seem complex at first, but after a while you know what you need and this is for example Freelook, by default on ALT so you have the possibility to look around while driving or while running into one direction. If you want to go deeper in immersion use something like TrackIR (check YT for vids on it). Also, even if it takes you one hour to figure out which binds you really need and which rather not - I had hours and hours of fun with A2/OA.
If you don't have fun by what you doing, do something else, and even within the same game, that's not so hard, look around what's played the most and choose among it - I can recommend Insurgency (the user-made mission, not a mod), Warfare and Domination/Evo.
I have to say, for anyone who likes modding and creating game stuff, Arma2 with its outstanding editor/mission builder is a dream. I've been addicted to it for a couple months now, and I plan to use it for my annual 1-week class on modding in the spring.
Does it have any flaws? Sure, but the engine is really very solid, having gone through two previous (major) generations already in Operation Flashpoint and Armed Assault.
The editor can be used at the "wizard" level which totally holds your hand. And you can move up to the normal editor, using only basic functions, and if/when you want, you can move up to using bits of code for triggers and in units' initializations, then go all the way to writing whole scripts that are called when/how you want. It's awesome.
So, the Call Of Duty Games, The Halo Games, the Ghost Recon Series, The Brothers in Arms Series and the Newest Battlefield games aren't on Console?
