A game inspired by Magic Carpet, with modern graphics and features, to name some: simulated water and lava, swarms of creatures, generated worlds. You play as a sorcerer, exploring mysterious worlds, changing them, discovering ancient secrets, creating new spells, fighting creatures and other mages, building and destroying as you please.

5 comments by elecdog on Dec 17th, 2013

Change log:

  • Initial story mode, universe map and saved games.
  • Configurable controls. Some cheat/developer buttons are still hardcoded though.
  • Added on-screen message when Use Portal and Castle spells do nothing.
  • Changed font to Kaushan Script and improved font rendering.
  • Mana cheat now increases maximum mana as well.
  • Fixed some GUI-related crashes.
  • World map is available in developer mode now (not that anyone but me cares).
Desura Digital Distribution

In other news, Arcane Worlds was greenlit! It'll be available on Steam Early Access in a month or two, and you'll get a Steam key if you already bought the game.

Hey, I preordered this via your website quite a while ago now, any chance for those of us that did getting a copy on Desura?

Yes, all who bought the game on my site got the Desura code (and will get Steam one when the game will be Greenlit).

Just get to the page where you download the alpha, and your code should be there. If you have trouble with that, contact me by email or via Desura message, and I'll help you.

What's in the full game that's not in the demo? I can't find anything that explains it.

More spells currently (both initial and those you can find in the world). The difference between full game and the demo will get larger as the game is developed, especially when story mode will be added.

Hi. I just tried the alpha, and I have some comments for things that I feel the game needs:
1. A ceiling (invisible) - As-is, you can fly so far up that the entire world is nothing but a indistinct blue ring
2. A more flight-like movement model - Right now, it basically feels like mouselook, especially with the instant starting and stopping, as well as basically instant turning.
3. A floor - Just for kicks, I cast pit repeatedly on a tree until I was so far underground that the outside was just a slim light overhead.
4. A character model - Looking down and seeing your carpet and/or shadow would help a lot with immersion.

And obviously a lot more things to make it a complete game, but things like this should be planned for as early as possible.

After playing this game for a while and figuring out how it worked, I turned on the mana cheat, and I have to say, it might be hard to put a ceiling in this game.
If you use the fracture spell a lot or volcano a lot, the ceiling would have to rise with the landmass otherwise you would be stuck between the floor and the ceiling unable to move.
And due to the nature of the fracture spell, that would be one messed up ceiling lol.

Edit: Dunno why it's showing up as a reply to this comment...was meant to reply to the guy saying the game needed a ceiling?

Thanks for your feedback.
I'm going to improve flight, several people complained about it too. Adding character shadow is easy, but I don't like to define the character more.
I considered adding ceiling, especially when I'll have clouds, but I missed the floor, thanks.

One of the reasons I like the game is because it has no ceiling. You could use this to enhance the game.Looking forward to singl player, story driven, not randomly generated campaign of Arcane Worlds.
