In Anodyne, you explore and fight your way through nature, urban and abstract themed areas in the human Young's subconscious, evoked by a 16-bit-era visual style and a moody, dream-like soundtrack.
The player moves between rooms 160x160 pixels in size, an intended constraint that we used to create the monster-filled dungeons you will navigate and the set of nature-based (and sometimes stranger) places you will explore.
You can buy Anodyne from our website. Anodyne is developed by Sean Hogan (@seagaia2), who codes and writes the music, and Jon Kittaka (@jonathankittaka), who does the art. We're also on Facebook (fb.com/anodynegame) and Twitter (@anodynegame).

Hi all, long time no post...anyways, I've been working on both our new game, Even the Ocean, and the mobile port, and the iOS version is ready to be released, and will be on sale, 40% off at $2.99, on next Thursday 6/27, as "Anodyne Mobile", for universal iOS.

Anyways, it is a straight port - no new features (wouldn't make much sense to add content, in my opinion) . BUT IT'S PORTABLE! And affordable...no achievements or stuff, and it's not on desktop, so hence the discount! Well, that's part of the reason...

So yeah. Pick it up if you get the chance, tell your friends!

-Sean Hogan

this looks beautiful =D
why do so many people using adobe air advertise their products as "linux compatible", though? adobe air for linux is no longer supported: Blogs.adobe.com

old versions can be installed, but it's a pain to do so, and there will be incompatibilities with any new features etcetera.

also if you cant get it to run at all let me know and i'll probably upload a SWF with no air api calls so it doesn't crash the game, you can run that in a browser or flash projecotr (not ideal but better than nothing!)

Whoops thought I replied to this: I use AIR 2.6 which is the last one that supports linux - if you can get AIR 2.6 to work on linux then Anodyne should be able to run

the problem is that even the 2.6 version isn't really "linux compatible". it requires that the user have either an rpm or a deb packaging system AND that he be running either gnome or KDE. i'm using arch, and there is a repackaged version of the 2.6 sdk in the AUR, but the game wouldn't launch with that. i finally got it to start by using another, very out of date (2.1) air runtime package from the AUR, but all sounds are delayed by about a second, and anyone not using arch wouldn't have this option, so a separate swf would be really nice, if it's not too much trouble.

all that aside, i'm really enjoying what i've seen of this game so far =D

oh, and i found a bug. when you're swimming and take damage in the water, it's possible to be shunted into the land, like so, with no way of getting back out again: Img.removedfromgame.com

Okay, I am uploading a build now. I will send it to you, could you test it? If the following don't crash the game:

-Starting up
-Saving
-Trying to mess with window config in menu
-Quitting from menu

then we should be good to go.

yup, everything appears to be functioning properly. window configs all have no effect, and saving works.
thanks!

Okay, thanks for bringing that up, I'll try to get a plain swf out in a bit.

Anodyne works perfectly with the last version of Adobe AIR for Linux. I've only tried the demo but the full game should be the same.

You can check instructions how to install AIR 2.6 on Ubuntu (the first answer):
