Masterpiece. Probably the greatest horror game ever made. The atmosphere and immersion are probably the best there is. Ive played many horror games of this style and knowing that this one is responsible for changing the horror genre is amazing. I don't scare easily and the fact that i have played many games of this style before this one and that this one still managed to scare me is impressive. I can hardly imagine how horrifying it would have been for someone playing it at its release.
The story was great and disturbing. The level of detail put into it was amazing. Though there were a few things that were a bit vague, overall the story was very well made and among the most disturbing in any horror games (cry of fear is the only one i can think of that's more disturbing)
The scares were special in the fact that they were not huge but they were able to use subtle things(ambient noises, doors opening and closing) to make you jump simply because of the tension and great atmosphere. The monster encounters were well placed and each was different.
I was never a good puzzle solver so having an idea of the game mechanics(i had watched a few mod playthroughs) helped a bit and the puzzles were great and most did not interrupt the story i did get stuck twice though.
This is an amazing game that should be played by any horror fan and even none horror fans because of the great experience. This is the only game EVER that i have replayed the story simply because i wanted to. Not to mention the hours of entertainment you could get from cs's.
Definitely worth any penny (unlike some horror games that shack your money)
