The last remaining memories fade away into darkness. Your mind is a mess and only a feeling of being hunted remains. You must escape.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent, a first person survival horror. A game about immersion, discovery and living through a nightmare. An experience that will chill you to the core. You stumble through the narrow corridors as the distant cry is heard. It is getting closer.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent puts you in the shoes of Daniel as he wakes up in a desolate castle, barely remembering anything about his past. Exploring the eerie pathways, you must also take part of Daniel's troubled memories. The horror does not only come from the outside, but from the inside as well. A disturbing odyssey into the dark corners of the human mind awaits. A sound of dragging feet? Or is your mind playing tricks on you?

By using a fully physically simulated world, cutting edge 3D graphics and a dynamic sound system, the game pulls no punches when trying to immerse you. Once the game starts, you will be in control from the beginning to the end. There are no cut-scenes or time-jumps, whatever happens will happen to you first hand. Something emerges out of the darkness. It's approaching. Fast.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent throws you headfirst into a dangerous world where danger can lurk behind every corner. Your only means of defense are hiding, running or using your wits. Do you have what it takes to survive?

even if we don't get pistols, why is it not possible to use improvised weapons? such as a piece of pipe, a butcher's knife. seems strange how your only option is to run and hide.

That's the gameplay.. Haven't you played Penumbra?

You could knock creatures unconscious with a pipe, but that wasn't what made the game great.. at all!

Being scared of everything around you.. *that* is cool. :)

My only hesitation with this game is the lack of combat.
While I know that was most likely intentional, it lowers the immersion for people like me. I have a natural sense to fight. If something came at me, my first reaction would be to find a way to fight whatever it is. Even if its only something improvised, like a wooden plank, I would fight. Or at least try.
Now, if say there was a "fake" combat system that allowed you to try to fight, but inevitably fail, that would be better in my opinion, for then it says "you can't fight this" instead of "we won't let you fight this"

In Penumbra Black Plague you could do stuff like throwing stuff at the enenies and they would react, but they were still basically inmortal so the safe bet was to run.

In Amnesia as far as I understand it you are playing as a phychotic charater that loses his mind when he sees disturbing things, so there's your reason to run away.

Anyway, Im a huge Frictional fan, I pre-ordered this the first day it was available and I cant wait for it!

Name some enemies from previous survival horror games that aren't some type of monster/ creature/ evil or murderous individual(s) bent on seeing to your demise, then.

I don't think the genre can exist without monsters at all. Besides, Amnesia: TTD has a lot fewer monsters than most games belonging to the same genre.

Why? Do you prefer the overused zombies?

In Penumbra they were just a cheap variation of the theme.

If you like dark atmospheres and intense plots full of suspense and psycological terror, such as those found in games like Silent Hill, Diablo 1,or S.T.A.L.K.E.R SoC, then this is the game for you.

Amnesia - the Dark Descent redefines it's genre.
