This is Fudrucker5's M249 saw that i textured. Since we have no textured artist i tried to texture this weapon myself.

By textured you mean you took a picture and slapped it on the model, right?
yes its called UV "TEXTURE" genious and if i'm not wrong im pretty sure you do that too if you were trying to imply that it is a very bad method
Yes, texture artists do UV map but they do not STEAL images and just place it on their weapons. They make their own textures with programs like GIMP or Photoshop, etc. You're better off just using basic colours as placeholders for your texture.
Um, dude, positioning the camera to look straight at the side of the gun and then hitting unwrap->project image isn't exactly UV mapping at it's finest.
You need to put seams Ctrl+E in Blender to cut the model at appropriate places and then just do a regular unwrap.
What I do for textures is just use Blender materials and then bake a full render onto a generated image.
we dont have a person who specializes in texturing thats why it looks like he "slapped" a pic onto it,i can do the same uv texture thing too its pretty simple, if you are a pro @ texturing then apply.
I never implied that I was a pro texture artist, but I certainly don't use halo textures on our models. We attempt to make our own textures, and if we can't for the moment being, we just leave the model blank or use one of the checkered textures that blender supplies us.
