The three most ferocious species in the universe in a bloodthirsty battle for the ultimate prize: survival. Take your pick: be a Colonial Marine, a Predator or an Alien. Fight through suspense-filled environments: from starships and space stations to colonial bases and eerie planetscapes. One wrong move turns you from hunter to prey.
This is the total conversion mod Cancer Black, public release 1.2, build 5.3. Although incomplete, this is the most extensive mod for AVP Gold Edition. Using the source code and official Fox tools, a group of modders called the AMP Team created Cancer Black, adding new weapons, levels, HUDs, commands, features, textures, and sounds. It was intended to be a more tactical and realistic version of AvP. It was abandoned in 2004 but still released in beta, which is this version here. This mod is intended to work with AVP Gold Edition, HOWEVER, YOU CAN STILL RUN THE GAME WITH AVP CLASSIC 2000! It will have graphical issues, but you can overcome them partially by using the predator's thermal and grey vision modes. To install the mod, simply run the installer and change the directory to either Program Files\Fox\Aliens versus Predator (for GE) or Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Aliens versus Predator (for C2K). This mod is functional but unfinished.
Why was the project abandoned? Loss of interest? Or time? The project seems like if it was fully completed it has the capability of being the most popular addon, for this game, on the Moddb site.
Loss of interest, life caught up with them, and they had too many ideas without the abilities to implement them. Also, the fanbase had largely moved on to AvP2 by the time they abandoned it. Work simply petered out and eventually they just decided to release everything they'd done up to that point, which is what this is.
At least they released it to the public as that's all that really mattered. I think a released but incomplete Mod is still Much Better than an unreleased, unfinished, and abandoned Mod.
It seemed like they hope that someone would continue and follow their work and try and see if anyone else can improve their Mod project when they had released all of it's assets.
Thank you for these mods are fantastic
If you still have AvP Gold or AvP 1999 Original Retail CD release then you can still get this Mod to work.
Otherwise go to this guide here by Olde72 on "How To Get AVP Gold Edition Working On Modern PC's":
Moddb.com
You need to download something called dgvoodoo 2.5 and set it up accordingly to Olde72's guide in order to be able to run this Cancer Black Mod.
What a blast from the past. Too bad it doesn't work with the steam version because it had some neat features.
It's cool to play through the levels though. The design of the mines level is especially so. Obviously Rebellion had to make their levels simple for easy navigation by all the species but I like the added complexity here.
