Aliens: Colonial Marines is a squad-based first-person shooter in which the player controls four Colonial Marines, each with a different personality and primary weapon. Each player character can carry additional weapons including a flamethrower, pulse rifle, smartgun, pistol, RPG, and many types of grenades. The player controls one marine at a time, issues orders to the others using context-sensitive commands, and may switch between characters at any time.

Description

Mod to make Colonial Marines very well optimised for older computers by lowering graphics budgets and disabling some intensive things like bloom and motion blur.

What? Old computers have trouble running this game? The graphics are bad enough as it is already!!

Yep, but believe it or not a couple of my friends were having performance issues so I made them this.

You don´t need to set ervery effect to "false", to make A:CM smoother. A:CN got a fps block.

Just set the fps up to 120. My oldest rig got a dual core and a geforce 9800 with Win XP. The game runs with 60 - 80 fps on this old machine (with the 120 fps tweak). But even my eeePC can run A:CM wit 35 fps, with all updates. ;-)

How old are the rigs of your friends?

BTW....if you got 4 GB of RAM (or more), disabel the pagefile in Windows to get a performence boost. Old or slow HDD´s causes stuttering in game. This is a old known glitch by UR3 games. It got nothing to do with the CPU or the GPU.

I'm not sure of my friend's setups, but a couple are pretty awful and this mod has helped them to be able to play at a good fps and not lag in game.
Intel HD Graphics springs to mind...

Ok?!?...my eePC got a Intel "GPU"...it´s a very, very, very slow and 8 years old gfx unit. I can run the game with 35 fps on 720p. I´ll tried your setting. The games looks totaly $hity (to the stocked) and the fps is still 35. Man, you killed the dynamic lights and every effect! And the textures looks like washed out. No one wanna play a game in this poor quality. Not even the biggest Alien nerd! :-)

I mean, A:CM stocked looked allready like a PS2 game. You can run this game with a fancy 50 bugs rig.

Maybe your friends should by a "faster" rig or a PS3,XBOX 360 to run A:CM. lol

Cheers!

Tell me about it, it's pretty annoying!
The mod works for them so that was all I was worried about, I just uploaded it here for if anyone else was in the same unfortunate circumstances

Hey bud I do use a Western Digital Green HD which is quite slow, and every time I try to run the Stasis Interrupted DLC I get a crash when the WY Flametrooper shows up in the intro. I'm wondering if its bc of the WD Green HD! Any thoughts?
