Alien Arena is a standalone that combines a sci-fi atmosphere with the tournament style deathmatch of Q3A and UT2k4. With major graphical features such as GLSL per-pixel lighting, ragdoll physics, light blooms, real time lights and soft shadows, Alien Arena brings a level of beauty and immersion not generally seen in deathmatch. The game also includes mutators, adjustable effects, bot skill settings, and fully configurable deathmatch, team deathmatch, CTF, All Out Assault, Team Core Assault, Cattle Prod, and Deathball games.
The game features original artwork, with with a dark sinister atmosphere combined with an off-the-wall campiness, and trippy, techno type music. There are currently over 60 maps, loaded with weapons(each having an alternate firing mode) and powerups.
Alien Arena has fast, smooth gameplay, and players can play online against one another or against the bots, which feature multiple skill levels, and will rocket jump, strafe jump, and taunt you mercilessly.

Alien Arena: Mercury Edition has been released!
After months upon months of work, the newest version of Alien Arena has been unleashed with a number of new features, graphical enhancements, and a much faster rendering game engine. This is a major enhancement, and players should see on average around a 300% increase in rendering speeds.
Some of the new features for this release include:
- Major improvements in map rendering speed
- HD lightmaps
- IQM mesh animation now handled in GPU for major performance gains
- Particle rendering optimizations
- Fixed issues with ATI and shaders
- Soft shadowmapping for vegetation and players
- Cubemapping on mesh and map surfaces
- New glass and water effects
- Weapon switching has been made significantly faster
- TCA now best two out of three
- Various player models received poly increases for smoothness
- New armor models

Man I've been playin FPS since the first "Wolfenstein"..Prolly played more than 1000 differnt shooters..I found this game 3+ years ago and I believe my search is over..This game friggen "ROCKS THE HOUSE" with all the new updates and outstanding graphics and performance upgrades...This is the sh*t my freinds..DEATHMATCH is here to stay \m/
I have not had so much fun playing an FPS since Unreal Tournament & Quake 2, all those years ago. Have been playing this game for over 1.5 years and haven't looked elsewhere since, it's that good. Mods, keep up the good work and many thanks. Cheers.

Wish they would release/post a legacy version. One prior to needing physX, or whatever graphical enhancement made it not play on my old machine anymore. It may not be compatible with the current version, but it was still fun to play on older hardware. If you have problems installing, you may need dev packages (libcurl_dev, and etc.)
All versions of Alien Arena are compatible.
Where can I download the engine?
Via SVN, currently "the engine" is actually the game. You will need the source code however, that you can get from SVN.
Cant launch it on OpenSuse 12.2. Running terminal, shows something related to libcurl4. However, cant lanch even after reinstalling this package.
Post the error in the forums at Red.planetarena.org and someone there will be able to help you.
