AirMess R9 is now available, on Widows 8 RT, Windows 8 Desktop and of course Windows 7!

AirMess TimeTrial

Windows 8 RT

Windows Desktop (Windows 7 and 8)

AirMess Desktop 1.9

What’s in the box?

Incremental little update as I’m currently on holidays :)

  • New racing mode: Time Trial.
This is the classic WipEout Time Trial. You have to finish the laps as fast as possible and you are given one boost item per lap.
Currently the leaderboard is local only but in the future I want it to be online ;)
  • Improved the collision detection and response of ships with road walls
  • Easier opponents in Sub-Digital. This one is a little trickier…
The problem arise because the AI used to be way too good when playing on the easy mode, never giving you any chance to improve yourself.
The AI now in Sub-Digital (and only Sub-Digital) was thus slowed down in order to give a chance for the player to keep up the fight.

Once again, feedback highly appreciated :)

Have fun!

I did a "quick and dirty" port of my dev build on Desktop to be usable. As a result, the next version of AirMess WILL include a Desktop release :)

That should happen somewhat this week end.

While most stuff looks great, couple of remarks
- I'm not trying to make a 1:1 copy of all of the Wipeout features (mostly because I have a finite amount of time :)) so I might not get to the end of this kind of list
- The sounds for the missiles and explosion are already there :)
- For the "Implentment PC Version For This Game" that's a tricky question. My engine is actually capable of rendering my game both in Windows Store apps and Desktop mode cf. Ecogamedesign.files.wordpress.com
Thing is, I did not invest on the UI for the Desktop application and the UI I'm using right now on top of the game is based on the Windows Store Framework, which obviously only runs in Windows Store apps. If I wanted to release it as a Desktop app I would need to invest in making a Desktop UI :(
- The second problem is that I'm using DirectX 11.1. This is given in Windows 8.1, but not necessarily on Windows 7 (it comes in a platform update so I'd have to check for that first) and isn't even supported in Windows Vista at all.

So that's why :)

I've been thinking about the career mode for a long time but all ways requires more content, as you said, with the ability to unlock races and have a grid made of dozens of races and ship attributes. So I'm trying to build that up before, but I added all of that on my todo list, thank you :)

One question thought about your last point, in Inifnity (Zone) Mode the ship does "explode" when the shield is depleted, and hitting walls are the things that depletes your shield. This is already the case. Isn't it what you are talking about?
