1. Knights. They give you the feeling of power in the campaign.

2. A normal bow, it seems more practical.

3. No, I'd rather have lived as a merchant or scientist at the time, if I had the choice.

1. Probably the Paladins since they are strong, fast and they remind me Paladins from Gothic 2 even if they don't have horses.

2. Probably bow since it's probably easier to use, but if I can use have both I would use a bow and also crossbow.

3. No, I would like to be either a merchant or a simple farmer.

1. Age of empires 3 jannisaries. They are useful at every age and has well both melee and ranged capabilites and they look cool.

2. Crossbow. I like the fast release and more advanced technology of it.

3. I would have probably never be able to move further away from village in reality. But i would like to be the inventor that conservative religious snicker but secretly use my inventions all the time.

1 - Woad Raiders? Not because I love them, but it costs almost nothing and fast as the speed of light. I formed my entire army with them in any game when I played as Celts. The fact; there's almost no counter against a flock of half naked pyjama monsters, and that's why I also hate them so much.

If they're not considered for the competition (and I can understand if they're), than the second (and my favourite) would be War Elephant. They're excellent tank, suitable to be in front of the army on a siege, ready to destroy any building they see.

2 - Normal bow of course. Every summer my grandpa (has already passed away, R.I.P.) had made me a bow, then we'd found and hit some targets and had great time...

And it has one more valid reason, aiming with any of them them was hard, so I'd prefer to use a faster weapon at least.

3 - As a person who have already seen a war in his hometown, I can say yes. But I can't know hand to hand combat needs the same courage as the firefight.

1.) Roman Legionnaire :) for me one of the best armies ever.

2:) Bow for sure, being a Hunter, setting my arrow on fire and being Robin Hood :D

3.)Well if it was to fight for my kingdom then yes. In that time my country was at war trying to define it's borders against the mourish(muslim) kingdoms

1) Knights Templar. Disciplined, elite, devoted to each other and to the cause; they were one of the largest military orders in Europe and no sigle king could take the on alone, their downfall was due to the treachery of the french king allied with the pope in order to get the templar's riches and power.

2)Bow, harder to use for sure, however, it's capabilities are far superior to those that know how to use it, especially in the past. Greater power and firing speed, faster "reload", greater precision and range

3)Yes, probably not as a soldier though, I would try to choose my own path and protect those close to me, seeking conflict is just plain, old suicide.

1. Probably just roman soldiers back then, pretty powerful when organized well with tactics.

2. A bow, much more faster to use than a crossbow, you dont need to handle the pain in the *** string for the crossbow, while you can shoot couple of arrows extremely fast.

3. Most likely, considering I like combat in general, I would most likely be a commander than anything.

Lets see. I haven't played too much of these games because I don't have the HD versions, so they glitch out really bad on my computer when I try to play them.
1) I'd say the peasant, because they are the most important unit in the game. Without them, nothing else would happen. Of course, then you can call them to arms as soldiers, and create a pretty formidable force if you have enough numbers.
2) A bow. A crossbow requires a lot of strength and time to reload. And according to ancient manuals, there were bow master who could fire off three arrows accurately in roughly one second. Not only that, but bows are more reliable, cheaper, and faster to produce.
3) That is a really tough question. One of those question you wouldn't know the answer to unless you were put in that situation. If I were passionate enough, I would certainly fight.

1. As I've been learning a lot about this game recently thanks to watching a very informative channel called Spirit Of The Law, I have to say that for foot soldiers I actually really like Samurai or Teuton Knights. They're both very versatile and functional replacements for standard Swordsman with some different disadvantages.

2.All in all, a Crossbow is much more useful. For one, it takes less effort to load than a bow and fires a much farther distance. The only real disadvantage compared to a normal bow is that it's very awkward to load because it's this weird cross shape that there isn't really a good angle to get it with unless you know what you're doing. Secondly, when considering the first point, it's just an objective upgrade. It can pierce through armor better and hit from a further distance. This is definitely reflected in AoE2 pretty well, as well, as they have a longer range and slightly better accuracy.

3. This is a really weird question, as being in this time can vastly change what kind of person you are. I'll just let this video answer this question: Youtube.com

1. There are many good candidates here. I think it would be The Varangian Guards. Norsemen which served from 10th-15th centuries as mercenaries for the Byzantine army and as the personal bodyguard of the Emperor.

2. Definitely a crossbow. It can pierce almost any armor from the period and is far easier to use and manipulate than a normal bow. Only drawback is reloading time.

3. Well, yes probably I would fight if necessary.

Answer 01: The Roman Praetorian Guards were some of the smartest, strongest and powerful of the Roman Army, loyal to the Emperor and their family only. And Praetorians were handpicked, and included the best warriors of their generation.

Answer 02: A Bow would be a harder to use, and take longer to learn, but +Ammunition +Precision +Reload Time, and Plus have you seen how fast trained archers can fire it?

Answer 03: in the 13th century it was do or die, the strongest, toughest, and most brutal were ten times more likely to survive

1- AoE2's Cavaliers, their sprite was so amazing, I'd often just keep them instead of upgrading to paladins.

2- A crossbow, better piercing capabilities and much easier to fire. It also seems to be very exciting to fire

3- I think I'd have lived as a mercenary or assassin, anything that would allow me to fire my handy crossbow : P

1. I think the Japanese Samurai from the Sengoku period is my favorite soldier because of how they look, and the discipline garnered over time and training they had to do through gives them a lot of respect in my book.

2. I think I would use a crossbow because of the piercing capability and because it's much easier to use than a bow or longbow.

3. I don't know if I would have the courage to fight, however I would certainly fight if I needed to fight. If anything, I'd prefer to be a merchant with some time on his hands to be able to train and defend himself

1. Probably a spanish conquistador, the idea you are in a unknow land for the first time is scary and exciting at the same time.

2. A crossbow is more realistic given it's simple way to handle and my lack of skills with a bow.

3. Courage to fight? Yes defitnetly. I expect to survive the battle? No, even if a do, a wound would be a death sentence anyway, do to infection.

• Question 01: What is your favorite soldier and from what time?
The Japanese Samurai are in the top of what actually is a much contested list. I don’t think that anywhere else on earth you can find a caste of warriors that managed to influence the history and culture of their country so deeply, for almost a thousand years. Without the Samurai one can’t understand neither the extreme isolationist period of Japan nor the culture of self-sacrifice that would awestruck allied soldiers during the Second World War.

• Question 02: What would you rather have used, a normal bow or a crossbue?
I would have chosen a bow. Firstly, I don’t have a very strong build, so the lightness of the bow would have been an asset. Other than that, although the bow requires more finesse and skill, the arrow is heavier than the bolt, making it more accurate at long ranges. And that’s what matters for me in the end, since I would like to consider myself as an ancient age sniper, rather than frontline soldier!

• Question 03: If you lived in the year 1200, would you have enough courage to fight?
Considering that the likely alternative would have been serfdom and toiling for barely reaching sustenance until death, I would have preferred to actually become a mercenary and fight for whatever European army was willing to pay and feed, even if that meant fighting in the rugged Balkans.

1.My favourite soilder is the Roman phalanx from the ancient times of the great Empire of Rome.
2.A normal bow. Crossbows are for people who can't shoot.
3.I don't think so. I would rather be into politics, manipulating people and such

Question 1: The english longbowman from the hundred years war, they could decimate an army from a huge distance without taking serious casualties, what makes them far superior to the ordinary archer and a huge nigthmare for their foes, going to the point where they became the backbone from the english armies for almost the entire conflict.

Question 2: I would use the bow, althoug it requires more training and pratice than the crossbow, it is far more effective by huge distances, that gives an advantage over the opponent who needs to cover that distance to be able to neutralize me.

Question 3: If it was to defend my land and my family surely i would, and if it was in a foreign war i would too, cause or you fight or the enemy kills you there's no much more of a choice in this case.

2. Probably just a normal bow because there is less that can go wrong. like malfunctions and jams.

3. I probably wouldn't have much choice but if it came down to it i feel like i could fight.
