Age of Colonies is a sidescrolling RTS city management game, in which you develop small villages into cities, with a flowing economy. In the current version, we have some missions and only one playable nation, the Greek. The game holds many buildings to develop your cities economy, and your city itself. Households upgrade, when they have the required goods, which will again help delivering the needed workforce for your industry. At the moment, the game is in beta, but the full version will have 2 playable nations, with a campaign for each.You will be able to favor a god of your choosing, to get different bonuses and build shrines to show your appreciation.The game will also feature a market system, for selling and buying goods and wares, and when you feel endangered, all you need to do, is to create an army to protect you against your enemies. We hope you will enjoy the game!

Hi everybody!

We know that this should have been done a long time ago.
Development on Age of Colonies stopped about a year ago. The main reason for us stopping the project was that we were two high school students, who ended high school to start on University and on different ones that is. We suddenly had so much to do that we never programmed anything anymore. Furthermore the code was badly done, because both of us only had little programming experience at the time of project start and it was almost impossible to correct without re-doing the whole project from scratch...

So the decision was between restarting the project from scratch to get the code right or drop the project...

Since we both just started at different universities and all that, we decided to stop the project.

We hope that you will understand our decision.
Maybe we will take up the project again in the future or make a completely different one, but for now, Age of Colonies is out.

I just played the beta, looks like a nice game. I found a few bugs.

1)When you finish mission 2, mission 3's flag does not become visible. I had to change the save file to "From village to city=1" to activate it.

2)My houses got to level 1, then even though I had pottery, their satisfaction kept falling. Sometimes pottery was consumed though, but the houses' satisfaction didn't go up even a tick. Either I'm doing something wrong or that's a bug. (two times I got errors ingame and I pressed ignore, didn't crash the game though)

And an observation:

I feel food consumption is WAY too much. I had to make 5 bakeries to keep a positive food rate for 10 houses, and even then, once the extra citizens from the house upgrades kicked in, it turned negative. At this rate there is no way I can build a stable economy with advanced buildings.

Weird about the mission bug, but we're fixing that.
When your house is level 1, you need to build a brewery and an inn.
Inns work within range, so you need to build an inn, within range (the range is shown in the next update)

About food consumption: We are going to do some balancing on food.
It is a HUGE problem. At the moment we are also going over the economy, since you can't earn money at the moment xD

Yep; I would like to do some extensive testing on balance in the near future. Hopefully it will be a lot easier to make your city a thriving metropolis :)!

We are also looking into making the missions more interesting and actually create some real challenges for the player.

Along with this market update their should also be some bug an balance fixes aiming to make it less frustrating to make the city of dreams.

You might want to update the game manual, it says level 1+ houses require pottery! Should be in mission 3's description too, currently it says I should get 10 houses to level 3 but it doesn't explain how.

At the moment mission 3 is the last level, and it is unbeatable.
It's actually made for testing, so that when we are done with these changes, the mission is playable xD

The manual is also changed for the next patch, which will come shortly, but at the moment both my friend and I are having exams at school, so we haven't much time xD
