** Update: I am in the process of building the real game now (named 'Portstar') so work on the prototype (named 'Adrift') has ceased which is why there has been a lack of activity. Once development picks up with Portstar I will start to update this page as much as I used to when the prototype was under development.
This is a PROTOTYPE for a game idea that I'm exploring.
The premise is that you somehow arrive on a ship somewhere in our universe. The ship is old and falling apart, so you must scavenge what you can, repair and explore the ship in order to gain control of the ship and find a way home.
The ship has a device on it which allows travel to various planets in range, allowing players to explore various types of environments in order to gather supplies to survive and materials to fix the ship.
Along the way the player will need to deal with events both on the ship and on the planets they visit and their decisions in the heat of the moment will dictate if they live or die.
Systems on the ship such as power, life support, weapons, propulsion, navigation and shields are fully interactive and able to be configured by players in order to survive in a hostile and very helpless situation.
The graphics, sounds and everything else are not what the actual game is going to be like. The art/sound assets are created/sourced in such a way that they just represent the vision that I have in my head.
Once I decide that this prototype is viable and that it's worth making a real game, then the graphics, sounds, gameplay, UI, etc etc etc will all be re-created much better than they have been at the moment.
Adrift was just a prototype to test an idea. The past couple of months I've been working on the real game which is now called Portstar (because there were already other games using the name 'Adrift').
The website for Portstar is Playportstar.com although there is nothing there yet (but soon!).
In the meantime, here's some screenshots from the past week or so showing some in-game rendering of a test ship and some terrain.
Consoles are computer terminals used by players to monitor and manage the space ship they are on. The first screen, Power Management, has been prototyped...
Over the past few days I’ve been adding an inventory system to the Adrift prototype. The inventory is pretty standard at the moment but I thought I’d...
It’s been 10 days since the last prototype release, and there have been some substantial updates. The big new features are the inventory system, gathering...
Ok, could you show us your progress, or the game is dead already?
Is this game inspired by Noctis, an older "roam an infinite random universe sim" Shares a lot of similarities, including the "cat-like aliens" :)
Need a tester anything? I really would love to help you out!
I want this soooo much! :D
I love tracking games that I don't understand ^^ Seriously looks interesting, but I have no idea what was going on in that prototype trailer! I will track you and find out ;)
Is this dead? if so im really sad ;(
Nope not dead! This was just the prototype and I've since started working on the real game which is named Portstar. Here's an album of some screenshots of stuff I've done over the last week Imgur.com
