[page=Introduction]
Insurgency places the player directly on the battlefield, under the hot Middle Eastern sun. There is no one else around except for your squad and your enemy. The streets are deserted, and nothing can be heard but the strong gusts of winds that cover the city with dusts clouds and sand. The battlefield is a little bit unusual and there is no doubt that Insurgency distinguishes itself from the rest of the mod community.
The mod was announced back in 2003, formerly known as Operation: CO-IN. The mod was to be a tactical first person shooter developed on the Source Engine. From the start, a majority of us who followed up in the community expected nothing more but quality work. Why? Because the word started to get around that Jeremy Blum would be part of the development team. But who is he? Jeremy is currently the leader of Insurgency, and recognized for formerly leading and directing the critically acclaimed mod and game, Red Orchestra. That being said, it was hard not to have high expectations from the start. In 2004, the mod went through an overhaul and was renamed to what we know as today, Insurgency.
All these years have passed and it was finally released on July 2nd, 2007. According to Steam statistics, after only a week of release, has become the most-played mod on the Steam network, for good reasons. Please continue on to the next page to read more about Insurgency and my impressions.
