Tremulous 1.1.0 Linux installer
Apr 01, 2006 Full Version 2 commentsTremulous 1.1.0 Linux installer
Tremulous is a free, open source game that blends a team based FPS with elements of an RTS. Players can choose from 2 unique races, aliens and humans. Players on both teams are able to build working structures in-game like an RTS. These structures provide many functions, the most important being spawning. The designated builders must ensure there are spawn structures or other players will not be able to rejoin the game after death. The overall objective behind Tremulous is to eliminate the opposing team. This is achieved by not only killing the opposing players but also removing their ability to respawn by destroying their spawn structures.

Work on the standalone version has progressed to the point where we have only very little media left to replace. In terms of programming, Tremulous is in a finished state bar a short testing phase. Tremulous will inherit all of ioq3's features as detailed in its README. A couple of features have also been added to Tremulous with the standalone version. Firstly, a scriptable trail system. This is used for the pulse rifle and tesla generator as seen below. Basically this allows the trail effects to be defined externally to the code, so no code recompile or programmer is necessary to change the effects. The other two shots show the new tutorial mode. This indicates which controls are available to the player in a context sensitive manner. Hopefully this will help slacken the learning curve a little bit and cut down on newbie questions during the game.
Assuming there are no last minute disasters and testing goes to plan (keep an eye on the forums if you want to participate), you should expect standalone Tremulous 1.1.0 to be released within the next few weeks.
You need to have Flash and Javascript running in your browser to see this player.

bots?
amen
Ok how about that no one ripped off anyone they just both had the same idea for a game?
When I tried it this week the download was tiny for todays standards (like 120MB) so I suggest anyone that's interested tries it for himself but I can't stand it.
It's pretty unbalanced (aliens come off as much more potent to get the job done than the humans do).
I played a bit of NS long, long ago and this does not really offer anything new yet.
this plays like a small scale version of battlezone 2: combat commander just wish you could have AI players
POWER TO THE FPSRTS
Hi. i signed up here JUST to make this one post. i'll probailly make more, but something said here ticked me off enough to post.
""I was going to do the whole 'PLAGERISIM!' thing, but its been done.""
Okay retard, for the record:
The concept of Tremulous was made from "Gloom" a QUAKE TWO (P R E D A T I N G half life by a good 2 years or more... Half lifes engine being based on a highly modified quake2 engine PROVES THIS.) mod.
this mod's precursor, gloom, predates NS by more than two years. NS plagurised GLOOM.
its amazing how daft some people can be.
Any old saying for you to ponder:
Sometimes its better to ramin silent and allow people to believe your intellegent then to open your mouth, and disillusion them.

So this is like NS but not running off HL?
Well I just finished off my monthly download limit downloading this game and no-one is online?! I'll give it another go later but you should really try to make an AI, single player or a campaign would be an awesome addition to this mod :)
