Red Alert: A Path Beyond is an exciting, free first person shooter based on Westwood's classic real time strategy, Command & Conquer: Red Alert. Control the characters, infantry, and vehicles from the classic and its expansions Counterstrike and The Aftermath in a unique flavor of base-oriented combat.
RA:APB has been featured by Game Informer, PC Gamer, Games for Windows, Let's Play, PC Zone (UK), eGames (GER), and has appeared on Electronic Art's very own CommandAndConquer.com; not to mention having a showing at the Leipzig Games Convention in 2006 and another shout-out segment in Battlecast Primetime. Recently, we were also listed in 1up.com's best free games of 2008... on top of being ModDB's 2nd Place Indie Game of the Year 2007.
Video and images appearing on this page are actual in-game footage taken during live gameplay.
It's 1946. Mankind has just gone through one of the most brutal wars it ever faced. While the rest of the world is still in shock and trying to find ways to prevent such an event from ever taking place again, a Jewish/German scientist of unmatched genius by the name of Albert Einstein, decides to act. With a device he was engineering for the US government (at a secret research center in Trinity, New Mexico-- the same site where he helped develop the most devastating weapons mankind has come to know), he travels back into time to kill the person who he sees as the root of all misery; Adolf Hitler. He catches up with Hitler in 1926, as Hitler is still a young - but already embittered - man and 'disposes' of him; without thinking through the consequences thoroughly enough, as time will soon tell.
It's now the 1950s. World War II never happened; at least, not yet. Germany remains a peace-loving country with close ties to other European nations, now finding themselves facing increasing tensions with Russia under Josef Stalin's lead... and all the while the Soviet Union grows in influence and military might. Attempting to live up to a glorious Marxist dream he has envisioned, Stalin mobilizes the forces of the USSR. His goal? The Soviet Union stretching from coast to coast after an epic communist revolution, with Russia reigning supreme. The nations of England, France, Germany, Greece, Turkey and many more form the Alliance that seeks to put an end to this madman's nightmare before he can see to its completion. The Great World War II has begun.
Players, joining the game at anytime during the gameplay, will usually be signing up to fight for either the Allied or Soviet forces. Currently in planning are also competitive-cooperative missions and unorthodox levels based around a specific set of RA:CS missions some of you may remember...
The Soviets rely on no-brainer brute force tactics, with the heaviest and hardest-hitting units on the battlefield. With an emphasis on putting as much fire on-target as possible, as quickly as possible, the Soviet arsenal includes many weapons with large areas of effect, and all their tanks include twinned barrels. While their navy is not neccessarily impressive, they can field massive squadrons of Hind helicopters.
The Allies require a bit more finesse to play. Taking advantage of the Soviet's slow advance with long ranged weaponry and agile combat units are only part of the plan. An array of uniquely-abled units like the Thief, Spy, and Mobile Gap Generator are able to play an important support role, and the Allies feature important field-repair infantry. Precise and powerful hits are key features of the combat-oriented units.
Command almost the entire roster of vehicles and infantry from Red Alert and its expansions, with new flair. Discover new unit combinations to make defeating your enemies a breeze. There is a near-complete roster of both combat and support vehicles for land, sea, and air, including:
Needless to say, we've been at this for a while to get to version Beta 1.2.0, and the unit balance is in constant revision. The map list is always being expanded, with over 20 primary maps for play, with an assortment of fan maps available for checking out. There is a game running nearly 24/7, and detailed statistical tracking is available with forum sig integration. We are dedicated to the constant revision and enhancement of this game, and have worked hard to make it what it now is, after a year-long break a while back. We'll try to provide a hosting package as soon as possible.
We hope you like what we have to offer, and look forward to your constructive feedback at our forums. It's a blast to play.

Just some quick things to think about. First, we're going to eventually redo the map A Path Beyond as it should be a flagship map, but instead sucked and was not very good in terms of gameplay. A few people have been concerned we've forgotten it, but it's a topic of internal discussion. Next, let's talk about Patch 3 a bit.
We wanted to do a little update that would just fix some problems (score system lol) and retune the balance again based on what we've seen and experienced in-game. You know, one of the advantages of such a large and active player base is that we can actually afford to test things both before and after release. Unit combinations you wouldn't expect happen. Anyways, as per our usual operation, the new version is getting rather large in terms of the adjustments we want to make. So it won't be out quite as soon as we would have hoped.
We're intending to include a couple extra maps in there this time around as well, but right now Complex has some strange errors we can't quite pin down. We were hoping to release it for this update but it's causing crashes. It's okay though, as we already have plenty of maps and will be introducing one or two new ones anyways! Pacific Threat will be making a return however.
Despite all the crying, we still think having a buildable supply/cargo truck for the Soviets is a good idea. :shobon: We'll figure out how imbalanced it may truly be during testing. It will probably be counted as one of the Soviet utility vehicles, thus not taking away from the tank vehicle limit; I'm not sure if we brought that up before.
We'll probably do a small 1.2.1 update anyways that has some launcher fixes, but not the extensive list of tweaks.
So many people are playing APB lately and I have to end up waiting in line for games sometimes. At 4AM EST. What the heck is going on? I've decided we need some statistical tracking for when hotspots in the day occur in terms of gameplay, and this stat collection may be worked into the launcher itself. Hopefully people won't scream BIG BROTHER at us, and it will be able to be turned off. But hey, if the server is full, the second server is open again. It has been passworded earlier, but give it a shot now if there is no room in the main server. I'm glad to see so many people playing, though. Lots of new faces. Just be sure to try to at least gives the n00bies some tips in between berating them for screwing up your rush.
Also, XWIS (that shitty WOL replacement EA allowed to happen) has been causing some issues for the servers. Anytime the connection to them is lost, the server restarts. This may have been a good idea back during Renegade, when WOL was somewhat stable at least (either down or up but not both at once in some quantum insanity) but we have no ranks to care about and most people direct connect anyways. The end result is that everytime XWIS freaks out for a second, the server restarts it seems! Back to the beginning of the map rotation. Sorry about that.
Some of you probably don't know who he is, but Sir Phoenixx is the guy who made virtually every pretty object in APB. He was our old weapons and vehicle model guy and he did so much work for us, some of which still hasn't even been put in-game yet; but he did it, he did it fast, and he did it right. Sir Phoenixx has basically been "done" with everything he had to do for the mod; the list of incomplete assets that weren't infantry or buildings was finished by him, now we're just remaking stuff largely.
Right before Christmas, his father died from lung cancer at age 59. Sir Phoenixx is working a job and trying to help his brother and mom, and really doesn't have the time for working on mods or gaming. He will be retiring therefore, after years of excellent work for us. He was a great guy and probably one of the best staff members we've ever had.

Does anyone know why when I kill someone it says "PlaidBaron ö (who ever I killed)? It says ö instead of killed or whatever it's supposed to say. Anyone know why?
yea, they made weapon pictures to be displayed but somehow it aint displaying anymore..
Have a hamachi server to play this game online?
tank
I don't know if you've played recently, but it is very difficult to turn the new V2 like that; it's impossible to kite a tank. It's also pretty hard to hit a moving target now or a target that has wandered too close, as the rocket now follows a ballistic trajectory instead of being a really-fast straight line.
How come you guys never made it so the V2 launcher had to be still to fire?
Like in a game.
Also helps with those little balance issue's where a guy can just drive about, turn, fire, turn and speed off.
where in the game it'd have to be at a halt to safely fire the missile etc.
I've gotta say that this is a great job. :) But there is much to go better, atleast on graphical side. :P At first the water isn't the best I've seen ;) and you should try to make bump mapping support because bump mapping is quite easy way to make things look like better for example tree surface would look like tree and ground would look like grass, stones, it would also make easy to get characters to look like more detailed etc. By the way the tree model on the video is quite terrible. ;)
We actually do have bump mapping support. The trees you see are all from, oh, four years ago, before we had it. Newer things like the APC, V2, Tesla Tank, HIND, Longbow, Turret, and AA Gun all have full support for normal mapping and specularity and were made with its use in mind.
We actually DID retrofit EVERY land vehicle with it, just prior to our Beta release, but they were made after-the-fact and aren't the best they could be, as all the vehicles were potentially being redone and it would be silly to invest the effort only to redo it in the end.
If you knew anything about World war II, youd know Germany slaughtered thousands of Jewish people. Put it together and theres your answer.
They killed lots of people. We can't change the fact that Einstein was Jewish. That part of the summery is lifted form the original Red Alert Manual (I'm pretty sure) and they don't say Einstein name directly, just "A Jewish/German Scientist" You know knew it was him due to the fact Red Alert had the intro video where he goes back and 'takes care' of Hitler. APB does not have that intro video, so instead we'll put it into text so people can understand the backstory. :)
