Hi everybody, and welcome again to another article. Today, we will talk about the new camera display we have designed for the demo in UDK, we will show you also a new alien that will be featured in Beta 2, in the farm level, and a little video with actual gameplay from the hospital micro-scene. This video shows an early stage, so the sounds will be most likely adjusted for the release. Let's start :
For a long time now we have seen a lot of horror games that feature the camera-like viewport, and that use a camera display as a HUD. However, most of the time that display poorly represents the complexity of a real one, and besides of the battery, it is not functional. If we wanted to have a realistic game, with realistic graphics and a realistic AI, it was obious that we needed also a carefully done display, so those people who have actually had a camera on their hands could feel the whole experience as a really immersive one.
We have now a display which is completely functional, and a little combination of several real ones. It includes some complex controls for brightness, contrast, nightvision, zoom, loss of focus, dirtness, etc. A lot of new features will be added during the development of the rest of the game, such as other vision filters. Of course, all of these features can be enabled/disabled depending on the difficulty you choose, be it easy, or simulation. There will be also a custom difficulty mode to let you adjust the parameters of the paranormal events and the whole gameplay.
The camera has a long zoom range, which will be very useful in many missions of the game. Also, with realistic effects like the dirtness of the lens, it will feel more natural. Of course you have to remember that this will not be the only prespective in the game. You will have to choose your equipment, and that will determine how you will see the world.
And besides all this, we are implementing some interesting tricks to the shadows, so they are not only a graphical feature, but they will add a lot of suspense and terror to your investigations. To finish this article, we will share with you some images of the new alien we have been working on, which will be featured in the nex Beta, the first Beta made with UDK. It is a very detailed model, which will have a pretty big role in the full story arch of the farm. As you may remember, the old demo ended with a "To be continued" label, but in this new Beta the whole story of the demo will be expanded, and besides of being longer now (around 25-30 minutes), it will be just the first step for the very first investigation in the game. The game's story has been fixed in some points, and we have now a really long script with lots of great moments. We promise that you will like the design that we are making, and the changes we already made for the better.
We don't have yet any release date, but you will be able to judge how close we are to it by the videos, as they will be more and more gameplay oriented. As soon as we have at least 85-90% of the demo completed, and we resumethe work with Beta 2, you will have an estimated date. For now, we want to take our time to study the engine and learn how to use it to its max capacity, to give the game the best content we can, and to be sure that we are delivering everything we had in mind for you: the best horror experience, and the best paranormal investigations simulation you will play.
