After an asteroid hits earth, the impacted island chain is sealed off by North Korea. The US responds by sending in a Delta Force team, aiming to discover the secrets locked inside. An alien force then appears from within the meteorite, forcing humans to ally against them.

Crysis is CryTek's follow up to their 2004 hit Far Cry, using a different story line, but crams in every new technology from Volumetric Clouds and Motion Blur to backlit leaves.

The game will be using the next-gen, breathtaking engine - CryEngine 2 - which will probably be the first one to support DirectX 10 and 4.0. Shader Model.

I totally agree with Doublethink.

Far cry is probably the first game that i played where I almost wet my pants when I discovered the vastness and pure freedom offered to players.

The AI was quite simply brilliant, calling for backup, retreating, flanking, grenades, cover fire for each of their squad members - all the time through verbal commands given by the highest ranking officer present.

The Sandbox that ships with the game provides yet another higher level of entertainment! When your bored and dont feel like playing a game, load up the editor and make an island with a hut or something that looks really cool, decorate it, then chuck a couple of Mercenaries around and a few (PLOT SPOILER) Trigens somewhere else, and then activate the AI and watch them fight it out from the free view camera, and it usually never ends up the same.

With the just released 1.4 patch for far cry that adds HDR Rendering, the graphics - i believe, easily surpass Half Life 2, Oblivion (perhaps, considering the consistency of detail into the distance with far cry), and some other releases coming up like Stalker.

Just a beautiful game and a real tribute to Crytek and Ubisoft for putting it out there. OMG i feel like playing it now!

Has anyone actually played FarCry on here?

Half the comments are "I hope its not just good looking"

FarCry's AI system was EXTREMLEY advanced. They didnt allow for save points on the game at first because they wanted you to play through sections more then once just to see how the enemies reacted in a VASTLY different way to each of their encounters with you.

They reacted to sound as well as sight. If they heard footsteps in the distance they acted accordingly.

On the hardest difficulty setting I would put FarCry up against anything made to date as far as realism in a one vs a bunch FPS style.

HL2 was a joke even on the hardest setting. There are even mods to try to make the hl2 single player more difficult to account for this.

The people developing Crysis understand that while a game needs to look good, it must do other things well or it WILL fail.

Again, HL2 is a fine example of this, with their intorduction of physics they had a few extremly contrived and obvious ways to kill enemies with objects. This game will allow for physics to affect the game as well, in a sense that a rifle burst can knock down a single tree and potentially take out a solder whos not alert enough.

to quote screw_you:

"I was thinking more of limitless gaming allowing the player to do as he or she pleases"

FarCry maps were the largest ever made in an FPS at that time. Without any load screens you could travel almost a mile and COMPLETLEY avoid conflict if you were quiet, clever and patient enough.

By your definition the "Next Gen" of gaming already took place, 3-4 years ago. Now the game will just look as good as its predecessor played.
