With the largest fanbase of any game ever released and well over 50 awards to it's name, Half-Life by Valve Software is undoubtably one of the greatest games ever. Half-Life's great assets though is it's modding potential and as shown by brilliant titles such as Counter-Strike, Day of Defeat, Team Fortress Classic, there is no question as to why more mods exist for Half-Life than any other game. If you havn't given this game a whirl and one of it's many mods you are definitely missing out!

Hello to all those following our progress and apologies for our long silence concerning the project. It's still alive, but we had some problems getting what we truly wanted on the HL1 engine and we're now exploring the possibility of using the HL2 Source engine to provide us better enviroment with more complex maps and models.

I've uploaded an image from new WIP stormtrooper to show were still going on

Ummm, yes half life does use a modified version of the quake engine, not quake II. Both were great games but for single player experience HL certainly gets the nod. Here are some excerpts from an article on softimage.com:

"The original Half-Life technology is based on the famous Quake 1 game engine, which Valve licensed from Id Software. Built on the success of its 2.5-D predecessor, Doom, Quake 1 was the first game to introduce true 3-D environments and deforming 3-D characters.....
Newell?s vision was to take this technology and go further by making first-person perspective games work as a rich story-telling medium.

To this end the team at Valve updated Quake 1?s already impressive graphics effects with support for more colorful, higher quality environments and characters."

As for Half-Life 1 starting the modding community...I was playing MODS for Quake 1 years before HL1 was released. HL1 was superior to quake as a single player game but because it came out years after Quake this is no surprise. We all owe Id our thanks for allowing the player community to publish modifications to its game with virtually no hassles. Thanks Id!!

look at the compile tools
anyone remember - WE USE THE QUAKE TOOLS
not qbsp2

the clip hulls - 3 clip hulls instead of shifting planes like q2 etc

LOOK AT THE SDK FOR GOD's SAKE THE ACTUAL CODE OF HALF-LIFE IS QUAKE1
