***EDIT***Whoops, some text got cut off at the top, tried to fix it as best I can remember it :O

Well, I've been thinking about this idea for a long time, and it doesn't seem like there are any active zombie-based mods, so I figured I might as well post this :D
But I want to get one thing straight...I HAVE NO SPECIFIC PLANS TO BEGIN THIS MOD UNTIL I GET MY HANDS ON HALF LIFE 2! I thinks that it's VERY important to get a feel for a game's vanilla gampleay before you know if a mod will work out well or not.
So anyway, on to my idea: It's a mod for Half-Life 2 based on...you guessed it...zombies! It's multiplayer, but there is only one human team, the...Humans :/ All the zombies are NPCs.
That brings me to the actual zombies. For the sake of the mod, I'll say they're fresh corpses reanimated by a disease the revives the brain and body cells, but corrupts them in the process, allowing them to do little more than walk around looking for a meal (real living flesh, of course...they dont eat each other) and groan; they have no real human thoughts. They can take any ammount of bullets to the body (although large caliber bullets, or explosives might take off an arm or two), but only one or two to the head will kill them (I'd say only one, but I'd like to spice it up by having a shot that would only skim by a zombie's head not kill it). After all..."Kill the brain, and you kill the ghoul!" If one hears a faint sound (a foot scuffling on a floor tile, for example) they might slowly shamble towards it to investigate. If they hear a louder sound (thus attracting more zombies), they might shuffle faster, and reletively quite moan-wise. If one actually SEES a human it will begin to moan, attracting more zombies, and it will move towards guy as fast as it can (maybe even a shambly run, in some zombies' case)

I'll give you a rough idea of gameplay in one level.
You start off unarmed in a big city (I'm not sure how large HL2 maps can be though...). I timer counts down the minutes until the zombies appear on the map, flooding into the city moaning and groaning and looking for a meal. The zombies could come from different direction, it would be random for each game (and also whether they all come in one big horde, or maybe two smaller hordes from different directions, etc.). During those few minutes, you've got to find weapons. There will be TONS of different weapons in the game, cause I just love varity
The weapons will generate randomly, but in logical locations. For example, if you go to the abandoned hardware store, in one game you might find a hammer in a back room under a shelf, but in another game you might not find a hammer at all there...but be lucky enough to find a chainsaw behind a desk in the same room. That way, you wont have people that know where all the best weapons are, leaving the crappy ones for newbs (plus it adds to the tension and over all experience; your running down a hallway, zombies coming from either side...no problem though, right behind this door is a shotgun and shells...you fling the door open, only to find a baseball bat lying in the corner... :O ).
Ranged weapons won't be everywhere either; melee weapons would be the mainstay of your weapons cache. And even if you find a ranged weapon, it might not have much ammo. So you might find a revolver, but with only 6 bullets, which would make you have to use it carefully instead of going rambo and shooting every dead that moves (Not that I wouldn't love going crazy with a shotgun on a horde of zombies! :rambo: And you would get a chance to!).
You can't hold as many weapons as you find. You would be able to hold one pistol (maybe two...) and a larger weapon, like a shotgun or chainsaw. Like I said, I like variety, so if you're holding a chainsaw and you pull out a pistol, you might have to throw the chainsaw on the ground because of the weight, while if youre holding a shotgun, you might just pull out your pistol with the other hand while still holding on to the shotgun..
OR you could hold one large melee weapon and one-or-two pistols...OR one large melee weapon, one or two pistols, and one/more small melee weapons. Pretty much whatever is realistic, so if you're holding one large melee weapon, it doesn't mean you can just put it away in one of your magical pockets, it just mean that you can hold onto it while still having other other things in your pockets.
Well, I'm starting to ramble, so I'll go into more depth with the weapons.

Melee: Since these will probably be used the most, I've starting thinking up lots of different ones; here are some
-Machete: It just wouldn't be a zombie game without a machete, eh? :D
-Left Click is just a normal swing, and Right Click is a "power swing" (much more
powerful, with a classic power gauge!) Can chop zombies up.
-Crowbar: Jeez, you just need one of these!
-LC is a swing, RC switches between the normal "swing mode" and the
altenate "stab" mode; stab mode uses the pointy side, and is pretty much only
good if you can score an eye-socket jab. Bludgeons/stabs zombies.
-Axe: Chop chop.
-LC chops, RC is a power chop. Can chop zombies up.
-Chainsaw: Vroom vroom... I'm sure it would become a fan fav :devious:
-LC engages the saw and swings it, RC engages the saw and thrusts it outward,
but you're giving full control over the direction (but you can't move at all while
in this mode) so youstand still, with the saw thrust out, and how you move your
mouse around determines how the blade moves around (chop off arms,
legs...heads). Chops zombies up...of course!
-Hatchet: Like a small axe.
-LC is just a swing, RC throws it; if you don't get a head shot with the secondary
fire, then the zombie will die (most likely, but there is a slight chance you'll just
get a zombie with a hatchet in the face)
-Stick/Axe Handle: Simple but not without stopping power!
-LC swings normally, RC is another power swing. Bludgeons zombies.
-Baseball Bat: CRACK.
-LC swings, RC power swing. Bludgeons zombies. The are wooden AND
aluminum bats; the wooden one crack after awhile, but still last longer than the
aluminum ones, which bend and dent after awhile.
-Tire Iron: Oh, a classic.
-LC swings, RC power swings.

Primary: Will consist of a crossbow (silent take down, other zombies wont hear a report when fired), sub machine guns, assault rifles, hunting rifles (bolt action or otherwise) semi automatic rifles, and (of course) shotguns!

Secondary: Pistols, revolvers...

And then I'd like to include some other stuff, like silencers, flashlights (I'm not sure if they'd be common equipment that everybody starts off with or not : ) and maybe even a laser sight (maybe one got kicked under a display case in a gun shop? 8) )

This ended up being alot longer thatn I had thought, so I'll stop now, but I'd love any comments or critisism people have about it :D (Keep it constructive though!)
I know this is also ALOT, but if you think about it...it's just a lot of models! I for one truly enjoy modeling, and I know there are others who do; plus...and axe handle? Crowbar? Even and axe? Not very time consuming or difficult if you ask me!

Hope I didn't forget anything... :nervous:

Well, why play Battlefield 1942 when there is Call of Duty? Why play Call of Duty when there is Day of Defeat? Why play Day of Defeat when there's Battlefield 1942? Etc, etc
They're all WW2 games, aren't they? But they're also very different!

I read up on RE: Online (never heard of it until I read your post :O ) and the only thing I found that it has in common with my idea are the zombies, and the online bit. I was an RE fan for quite awhile and owned RE One, Two, and Three (but all I had at the time was an old PS: One, so I couldn't get any others :( ) so I'm familiar with the gameplay, and it's really completely different. RE is a great game in it's own, unique way...third person, suvival-horror puzzle game, only as interactive as it needs to be (I mean that as a compliment!). My idea is also unique...first person, survival team-deathmatchish, as interactive as possible.

blah blah blah, I could go on, but I think I've gotten my point across :carefree: I know where you're coming from though, sometimes a mod just isn't nessecary because there is already a retail game that delivers all the features (and better, usually).

Yeah, but the gameplay would be radically different, besides the fact that RE: Online is a MMO consol game. Like I said before, they are completely different, aside from the zombies...
