1. Most current movie badguys are either terrorists or some (American) supercorporation that makes people suffer for profit, not Russian.
2. The Russian accent sounds kind of harsh, so they make good movie villains. (I love how it sounds, by the way.)
3. Even when the bad guy is a Russian, they're mostly not affiliated with the Russian government. They're mercenaries, criminals, maffia etc.
4. Anyone who takes movies seriously and thinks all Russians are assholes is in the same league as thinking that all muslims are terrorists.

Aside from adding that some supercorporations are British or British mixed with American, I have to agree here.

Simple, they are not Russians, they are terrorists in disguise!

Simply because of Cold War propaganda.

Because developers love having cliched enemies.

I have friends from all over the world including Russia, and the only assholes are Americans (I'm American btw). I do know that another reason they do it is because the Russian government is corrupt, so it would sounds likely if they hired merc's to do their dirty work, but I don't think that happens, but who knows I'm not a spy.

Because stereotypes are easy to use; most game devs are 1)japanese, 2)canadian, or 3)american, and americans propagate cold war propaganda; russian accents are awesome; and also, any russian devs that might nullify this or counter it don't because of the established sterotype and warez sites would take any chance of profit from them.

Coincidentally, I actually have always wanted to make one.

Although there was one, in the "Honey I Shrunk The Kids" TV series. A deranged mountee that threatened the free world, if I remember correctly.

Well I am American and i always see China as a Threat. Russia Can also be a threat with their hackers >_>

Russia has lost its edge when compared to China. Russia is cutting down military funding cause they are doing 'military restructuring' aka avoiding bankruptcy,
while China is starting to make aircraft carriers and sending rockets into space. It's all about money and right now China has a lot more than Russia. And the best hackers
in the world are Chinese and Romanian.

"Russia has lost it's edge"... rather, Russia has come to it's senses, they don't need a massive army anymore, it's not likely they are going to conquer anyone anytime soon. Army swallows MASSIVE amounts of money and that money practically goes nowhere useful.

Let's thake jetfighters for instance. They cost a lot and their maintenance is super expensive. Just keeping to things in flying condition even if they just sit on the ground will cost you more money than the plane itself cost.

Dont take it out of context! I said "Russia has lost its edge when compared to China". Russia can still be more than a worthy opponent vs any INDIVIDUAL country (except USA and China).

IC Georgia is an independent state now, can't say I buy into the "Russian Uberarmy", if despite years of preparation they were outfought by some turncoats and militia.

its simple, the west has Hollywood. Hollywood makes films aka Hollywood wants people to see their films. Hollywood needs "bad guys", and according to the US senate (with retards such as McCarthy, a real far cry from a REAL senator a la Cicero in a REAL senate aka the one in Rome) theres nothjing more bad than the enemies, and except for the time USA fought nazis, the russians have been the enemy. And thats why.

Well, with it's mighty military force, Russia couldn't beat Afganistan. Just like NATO... though NATO fights a different enemy, not Afganistan, but the enemy tactics still remain the same, just like 30 years ago. Guerilla warfare > large military campaign. There been several occasions in history when Russia couldn't beat countries with 100 times smaller army. And other examples with other countries.

all of this is absolute nonsense stupidity. there's a complex social, political and artistic background behind the portrayal of russians.

also, the russians have already been phased out by middle eastern and north korean villains already. those who still think russians are the main villains are myopic morons who don't pay attention to anything.

It takes Americans about 50 years to stop hating people we used to have conflicts with.

No, it is not that we hate them, it is just they are a convenient enemy. In today's day and age, there are surprisingly little bad guys, then there is just this massive country sitting over there who USED to be powerful. It is a lot easier to ass pull them being strong than any other country and still make off with a good game.

Nah.... I'd say 75 years. I've still met plenty of racists in my life.

Communism is no worse than capitalism. In my opinion both sides if the Iron Curtain are very corrupt. Both have skeletons in their closets.
Well now that I mention it, there isn't an innocent nation. All are corrupt.

I DON'T HAVE A SIDE!! OMG! :D
