UTAN would like to announce the upcoming release of the 3MAC software for 3rd-Party Modifications to Unreal Tournament 2004.

3MAC (3rd-Party Modification Access Control) is a simple addition to your modification that allows the development team to maintain a 'white list' and a 'black list' of UT2004 GUIDs.

The 'white list' maintains a list of GUIDs that are allowed to play your modification. This is used during development releases to ensure that unauthorised people cannot use any leaked copies of your modification.

The 'black list' is another list of GUIDs that are not allowed to play your modification. This is used when you publicly release your modification and is used by the development team to disallow access to servers hosting your modification to unauthorized people.

The lists are maintained by visiting the UTAN 3MAC website, and modifying your lists by adding, editing and removing GUIDs. These lists are then sent out to servers hosting your modification on every map change.

The software is very simple to integrate, and only requires minor changes to your modification.

We would be very interested in hearing from any development teams for UT2004 that would be interested in using the 3MAC client. Please contact us at utan@unrealadmin.org for further information.

Regards,

Wow, I really wish you'd released this for Half-Life 2. It'd save people a lot of trouble with hackers and whatnot :S Lol.

We are considering porting the system over to a new game, HL2 is one of our options. We just need to find the time now ;)
