<!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> Normal 0 false false false EN-AU X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 </xml><xml> </xml> I'm looking at different engines and I've just checked out Unreal 3. I have some questions for people in the know about it. 1). How many players could it support? For instance: 32vs32 + 10 - 20 bot controlled? 2). What are the mapping capabilities of the editor? Like, possible to have large maps... that are well detailed... also most if not all buildings in map have internal structure (you can enter them, go up the levels etc/they're all open and accessible instead of basically a giant block with a skin to look like a building). 3). Sever-wise what are its capabilities, can it follow ‘progress' of players/set off random triggers/communicate between two severs, set commands etc etc Sorry if these are stupid questions. Thanks for your time, |

1.) It is only limited by the power of the server, but I would think for this amount of players you would require a dedicated server with a very good connection. You've got to consider if you would ever reach those sort of player counts though. 16vs16 is still more than enough. 2.) If the mapper knows what they are doing it is very easy to ensure only what is being seen is being rendered. 3.) Server can easily tracks progress/ triggers without much work, but I'm not sure if they can share work load between two servers. -- Portfolio |

I ment communicate between them. and yes I know, I was just putting max possible I was thinking of. I think the conecpt I am doing, in theory would work better as 16vs16+ becuase, the levels big enough to have netural 'natural wildlife' etc and hostile ones. and yeah... everything of that sort. Thanks |

Well, i'm fairly interested in Unreal3, as its apparantly quite flexible, but i've no idea how big the maps can be - anyone got info on that? |

Its quite flexible indeed, map size wise, it can do pretty large enviroments, but what exactly is it you want to create in size? in terms of multiplayer im guessing 1 huge open area, in that case just by looking at some of UT3's warfare maps, you can almost double those if you know what your doing, and in single player campaign like gameplay you could connect maps and stream them together with no loading in between like what was done in gears of war... its realy up to you what you want to do, you can almost do anything with it =] -- The best work never was and never will be done for money. Everyone who has a computer fancies himself a game designer, just as everyone with a guitar wants to be a rock star. There is nothing wrong with that if you remember that success is a long, hard road. |

I know of lineage 2 a mmorpg that runs off unreal2. Im sure unreal3 can do just the same if not a lot more |

Any renderer can be used to make an MMOG, so the point there is entirely moot. |

If you've played Borderlands (which you should really try, if you haven't already!) you'll find that the majority of the maps are quite large, probably capable of holding more than enough players (since Borderlands runs off the Unreal3 Engine). I assure you, Unreal3 is quite flexible |
