Plasma Pong rocks. It's not quite up there with Grid Wars in uber-addictiveness mind.

HALO!!! jk. Did Ground Control sell good?
I <3 Ground Control, whilst playing it every other RTS to me seems sub-par.

I'm pretty sure it's maxed at 60, because my counter stays on that the whole time. Ground Control sold enough not to be an underdog. Beyond Good and Evil can be picked up for AU$20 these days now though.

The best racing game, good engine (Destructible terrain!), with the best weapons (Nuclear bomb (Makes a big hole), hippie bomb (makes a big hill) and many more) It's just so awesome!

That sounds like it could be mildly amusing ^^

It isn't only mildly amusing! It's extremely amusing! The weapons! The holes! The things! Explosions!

I wonder how it managed to do that destructible terrain thing though.

Anyway, another game I thought was pretty good was that second "Pirates" game for xbox. Picked it up for real cheap and had lots detail packed into each level; not to mention the gameplay. Or something like that...

And I deleted your comment Ippo only to stay away from off-topic-ness (if there is such a word). Got it taken care of ;)

Someone add more to the list please!

The Longest Journey. Granted, I don't know the sales numbers, but most adventure games can be classified as underdogs.

Frickin' awesome it is.

Also Myst 3: Exile. That has some seriously trippy places.

Actually, I remember this being a big hit when it first came out. Or at least that's what it seemed from what I read in PC magazines at the time.

Incorrect, I'm afraid. While reviews for it were damn good, it failed commercially. There are even rumors that it is the only Lucasarts game (at the time) to never turn a profit, though I'm not sure if its true or not.

While I haven't had a chance to play it yet, The Blob is an awesome looking game inspired by Katamari Damacy.

Wow, that looks cool. I'll definitely try that one out as soon as I get my "good" computer back.

I think selling 500,000 units is pretty respectable. Not to mention, it did turn a profit, so I don't know where you got that news from. However, it was definitely underrated, just like Psychonauts. People just couldn't connect to it like a lot of other people did. It's a shame, really.

Another underrated game: XenoGears. It sold around 800k in Japan, but here, it was too far under the radar, it seems, but it was one of the best games released on the Playstation, and one of the best RPGs released across any platform, in my honest opinion. Graphics still hold up, the gameplay was really solid, the combat system was a blast (and should make a return), and the story was quite compelling. It's a real shame that XenoSaga ends on Episode III, and the only trace of Xenogears is when one of the characters, two small boys named Cain and Abel show up (if anyone played Xenogears, they're the kids Fei keeps seeing when he goes crazy).

Anyone here who is a fan of RPGs deserves to go back and check this game out. I saw it on Amazon.com for $20 new.

EDIT: And by the way, I realize this is pretty much about PC games, but I threw that out there anyway. :)

i think one of the main problems are reviewers. I could never understand how someone (singular) could review a game and then put a number from one to ten to show how much THEY enjoyed it. Obviously you have the normal 'graphics' 'sound' 'gameplay' within the review but everyone is different in terms of what they like in a game and what the deem to be 'good gameplay'. I know i few people that dont actually want to buy a game because it had crap reviews. I tend to read the player reviews mainly as the players give you a more or less general idea as to the how great the game is/was. Otherwise, i skip the website's review, as sometimes they get it horribly wrong. Hence why so many games are 'underdogs' when in fact they shouldnt have been. Its funny how soooo many people really do follow the initial website reviews as religion!! Annoys me.
