Whenever I'm not logged in on ModDB, I see that guest posts are always marked with "This comment is currently awaiting admin approval, join now to view." |

You can approve / disapprove (delete) guest comments with ham/spam upvote/downvote. A red unapproved guest comment is approved on the site when it turns black, and your rank, registration date etc affect how strong your guest upvote/downvote really is (it's not simple +1 or -1 as it seems). Approved black guest comments are visible to unlogged visitors. If a guest comment receives many "spam" downvotes it is automatically deleted. |

That's a pretty silly system, since it isn't related to "admin" approval at all. Surely, on my own content, there shouldn't be anyone needed besides me to decide that a comment there is relevant? I mean, it's completely ridiculous that when I reply to a serious enquiry in such a guest comment, said guest can't even see whether it was their question or some other guest's that I replied to. I've never seen any red or black guest comments, though. They all just look grey. Edited by: Nyerguds |

Here's a screenshot:
It is much more related to the karma system than the admin system. Well no, just like the karma system for member comments, it is a community's way of judging what comments are approved/disapproved on the site (as imho the current karma system doesn't tackle spam well, mostly it's just a popularity contest). |

Ohh. You mean the icon. Never really looked at that . Well, thanks for clearing that all up. Still a pretty stupid system, though. Especially since the message you get as guest about unapproved posts is completely nonsensical Edited by: Nyerguds |

Yes but that just seems to be a minor. Regarding other aspects of the guest system itself, the only major, very nasty problem is guest spam done by multiple (different) people as it really seems a plague on some more popular pages despite single guest spam countermeasures in place on the site. Both the community and administration should take care of guest spam more often. |
