So the pope is dead. Your thoughts? Will this affect you life in any way? Did the vatican and what it does ever have that much influence in your life anyway? -- 'Now, I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.' |

Though I'm not Christian, and am quite liberal in contrast to the conservative doctrines that the Pope preached, I am saddened by his death, as I would be about anyones. There is no denying that he was a great spiritual leader for millions if not billions of people, and there'll doubtlessly be a great void in the hearts of many. |

I'm against a lot of what the pope preached, but he kept Catholicism alive. He got out there, he was seen, he was a great leader, and stuck to what he believed no matter what. The world needs more people with that kind of attitude. I'm C of E, not Catholic, but I'm still saddened by his death. He was certainly someone with his head screwed on. |

Yea, same, not catholic, but I respected him because he did what he had to do. |

I am catholic, and I am very sad. Not only was he a great leader, but he did what he could to promote peace, and everything else good. I pray that the next pope can live up to the holy work of Pope John Paul. |

Dont forget he was also a very contraversial one almost to the point of corruption with the creation of more saints than any other pope in history -- 'Now, I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.' |

I'm glad he died .. not in a 'mean' way though. People shouldn't have to live like he was .. his time was up. -- i like biscuits |

exactly thats what i've never understood, not even the fact of how much pain he was in BUT shouldnt the pope passing into the realm of god be one of the most devine things possible? |

Yer, we should celebrate his life. I'm no Catholic but it is pretty obvious that he 'fulfilled' all his duties and went even further. So now ahead to the next Pope... I hope that the next one will not be Italian either. Apparently there is a strong possibility the next Pope could be African or even the Archbishop of Havana :o |

I cried. He was such a great man. You might not care, but here in Poland Pope's death is a great tragedy. Half of TV channels doesn't broadcast, and the other part is live-streaming from Vatican all the time. Nearly everyone goes to church, or prays in his home. |

im no catholic, but still i think he was a great man. He has given so much to the people and has always motivated millions and millions to do good deeds. He simply did not deserve a slow and so damn painful death. I really look up to him. -- OMG it's teh Raaaaammmbooo!!! |

Methinks the catholic religion will die out unless they rethink their stance on contraceptives. Maybe the next pope will realise this. But then again, he probably wont. |

Ditto. He lead a very selfless life, and put others about him, and was kind and gentle. He had that way about him, you see him smile in the photos and he looks just so kind and thoughtful. --

Sad, he was such a great man. I personally admired his virtue and courage. I may not agree with some of his opinions in abortion, contraception and women in general, his gentle soul and generousity however changed the way people look at Catholicism. I mean he forgave the guy who tried to assasinate him. Forget all the traditions and rules, they should canonise him and declare him a saint. --

He was one of the more liberal popes, if I remember correctly. He's also the first to ever step foot in a mosque or a synagogue. I'm no Catholic or even Christian for that matter, but being the leader of over a billion religious followers is no easy task. Not to take away from him or his life, but I really grow annoyed with how the media makes every famous dead person into a hero, regardless of their accomplishments. |

I don't think so. Without anti-heroes there's no heroes. Some of them has to be evil or bad. Stalin and Hitler were famous, but they're not made into heroes because of their accomplishments. |
