Usually ModDB will suffice, so the coders can spend their time on the actual mod.
Only when there's extra resources and there's a plan for a website, it's an option to make your own website.

Just like with mapping: you don't put a great looking model and a bad looking model next to eachother. For the same reason, the website should reflect the quality of the mod. Custom layouts for standard software like Wordpress or even 100% custom made sites can be very attractive.

My mod currently only has a teaser page and a forum. It's best to open a finished website, rather than having the 'under construction' text on every page.

What about following a mods progress on ModDB, Twitter and RSS? When i spot a good mod, i like to track it, so i know when it's released.
