Am I the only one that's getting tired of all these "teamwork" things nowadays? Granted, sure, teamwork is great fun, but practically EVERY mod/game that comes out now says "Incredible teamwork for an awesome and unique experience." Um, hello? Teamwork isn't unique anymore, hell, it was around from the days of CTF and Team Deathmatch where people would double-team their enemies.

Seriously, people, saying that your MOD/game includes teamwork doesn't really matter anymore. Sure, it was interesting back five years ago when it was unique, but nowadays it's in practically every game out there. Get used to it.

Rant over.

let's put it this way: lame team-work is on the run today and intelligent one rather rare.

just teaming up and blasting the snot outta others assholes isn't that creative... it's infact rather boring as seen tousand times now.

Teamwork is important to online games - honestly, a lot of pure deathmatch games leave it pretty indistinguishable whether you're fighting men or bots. Team games meant that the humans you were playing with actually meant something more than just another target. So it felt revolutionary.

I really didn't touch online FPS play until UT, where CTF was finally well-integrated into the game - not an afterthought like in the Quake titles.

My definition of teamwork: Drive people around in a warthog running people over, while the passenger blasts away with the chaingun

I'm just saying that, yes, teamwork is important, but it's more like power windows on a car--it was a big deal at first, but nowadays, it comes/should come standard.

I also think it depends on what kind of teamwork you're offering. If it's another team deathmatch, well, you can still make that unique by the way you play it. A lot of people do like to play on teams, so they can set up small groups or clans, or even play with their friends. There's still innovation to be had in the teamplay department.

Well there is a difference... you are thinking as in terms of Team Deathmatch... Ill bring up a couple of examples... I the mod Pirstes Vokings and Knights (PVK is an awesome mod) for Half-Life the game is set up on team deathmatch, but no one is really working toward a common goal... now in Day of Defeat you are actually working to take points throughtout the map. :P

[mad scientist]Bwahahaha! I, the geniyus designer of Mercury Sky have come up with a devious plan...

we must FORCE them to work together! Yes! Yes that si it![/mad scientist]
But, honestly, my mod actually puts a different spin on things. Usingn the fact that SOurce has a built in voice-chat feature, you can talk in-game without teamspeak or anything like that. One of our sides allows players to 'go it alone' and still play well, while the other, classes are designed so that players are individually incapable of winning without of luck, and they have to coordinate their efforts. SO team players can play on the team player side, and loners can play on the loner side. Serendipity.

I dont really think its the fact that the idea of teamwork is old, more or less teamwork has really never been properly implemented. Games like Counter-Strike set the definitive for teamwork, but there really isn't any. It's more like a deathmatch between 2 teams. Teams seldom work together to achieve the goals, and it is easily possible for anyone with enough skill to take on an entire team alone. Other then ghost recon, and MAYBE America's Army, I can't really say that any game incorporates teamwork as it should be.

I can think of BF42 - requires teamwork. An assaulter needs the support of aircraft or tanks to take out an enemy tank etc.

Oh, Bf1942 is composed of team killers who want vehicles badly. Getting shot by teammate before entering plane? Ew.

You're all forgetting Starsiege Tribes, where teamwork is key to success.

Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear (MP Coop Mode) is in my humble opinion the single most awesome teamwork game I have played! It was all there and the group was more mature and to me more adult like so there wasnt a 12 year old whining on the other end because he got shot by a terrorist.

If you have good admins and half decent players on the server then shit like doesn't happen :P

only with the problem that in the general case you've got poor admins and a bunch of assholes on servers (any game, not this one).
