Hey all, I'm finally ready to announce my new game idea, although I still don't have a name for it, the general idea is that you are working on a ship that's carrying monsters that wrecks on an island, all the monsters escape, and you are tasked with capturing them again. The capturing method of the monsters varies based on who you're trying to catch. Some monsters need to be caught using stealth methods, like traps, tracking, and ambushing; while other monsters need more active methods of capture, like chasing them down, or fighting them. I'm not sure what else to say, but here is what I have so far.

Fossil is the character people will play as. He's often grumbling, but a hard worker, even if his plans don't go as he hoped.

Although clean and nice looking, scarier monsters will appear.

The crew, from left to right. Maple the ship's Chief Mechanic, she's the helpful hardworking type. Our "hero" Fossil in the middle, he usually gets stuck with the grunt work. On the right is the captain, although I want to get a better name for him, I've just been referring to him as Captain. His dress and disposition fall somewhere between a navel admiral and cruise ship captain.

I'm very sick of the boring and lazy monster designs that seem to be plaguing much of the video game industry, and I'm not trying to make anyone feel bad about their monsters (I know a lot of people don't like mine), but I feel like as artist we owe players the best we can come up with. In my case I want to give players unique and fun monsters to hunt, one's that require a little thought about how to bring each one in, and make sure there isn't just one way to catch every monster.

The island you land on is big. It's broken into six main areas, and the monsters have all fled into their most natural environment. You'll have transport to a specific area, where you sent up the camp that you live out of for a set period of time, before you have to return to the ship to re supply. As you progress and recover more lost equipment, you'll be able to progress further inland.

The ship is big too, The prop is able to move the ship very quickly, and can be lifted out of the water for an airboat effect, or to protect if a large sea monster is too close to the surface, and they have to pass over it. It's common knowledge among the sailors that there are sea monsters bigger then the largest ships people have made, so precautions are necessary, and that's why the ship has a cannon.

I do like the drawing style, so I'm not keen on turning it into a 3D. A 2D handheld plus comic/animated shorts perhaps.
So yeah, this is marginally game-related and a good premise.

Thanks? Although I'm a little confused as to what you mean by "marginally game related" This is mostly just my concept art to give myself a foothold for the start of production.

I like the idea alot. The characters and the monsters look cool and cartoony. Sounds like it could be a fun adventure game.
