Sufficiently important - especially for Aussies.

My question is, why should Aussies not see other things that are going on outside their country? I mean, they're people just like us, the only difference I can see is that they live on a continent in the middle of nowhere. But other than that, why should the government censor things for them when it takes so much damn money to do and it wouldn't if they did anyways. Either they are idiots, or they had some cash and wanted to piss off the public, so they did.

Being a country like Australia where we are an island in the middle of nowhere of the ocean, we do need to have non-censorship so we can know what happens elsewhere in the world. If we do not know of any dangers in the world that may approach Australia (such as terrorism,) how are we supposed to prepare ourselves for what is coming and defend ourselves?

It's not just our current government.

The government before us proposed the same idea. Must be the mentality of the ageing baby boomers.

I'm sure the Administration has the citizens best interests in mind by protecting them from the " big scary world " out there. :S

Censorship is extremely prevalent in most media in Australia, and it's only got worse since John Howard left office. Our 6 o' clock contains almost no international news anymore, and almost of it is quite trivial. I remember asking people what they thought about the riots in Iran... No one had a clue.
I'd put this down to the fact that we lack "professional" politicians that can actively represent the people and inspire them. A good example would be the first man speaking on the speaker phone. I've seen primary school children give more charismatic public speeches.
That and all these "multicultural" and "its a mental health issue" attitude. Why just block people form accessing Child pornography? It won't fix the problem, hunting them down and dealing with them appropriately (execution has a 100% success rate in preventing repeat offenses, therapy, jail? yeah sure...)

I doubt it. They can gather intelligence by all means, searching suspicious websites including. Guess who was accused of wiretapping in the US not so long ago? And it still goes on... why wouldn't they spy on web servers and websites and either block or take it down?

I have to agree with you Feillyne.

Remember that $28 internet program the Iraqis used to tap into the video feed of Predator UAV's? The internet is used a shitload by the military, trust me.
