My 'idea' is more than just that. I'm an author with an already fleshed out scifi space universe in the form of an ebook series that is selling well enough to make me a full time author. I've already got over 2 million words published and it will be near 3 million come April when I finish with the BACKSTORY to the franchise. That's right, everything I've been writing is the backstory to the franchise I'm building, and I've constructed it as a multi-media platform with massive potential for video games. There's far too much to explain, but it's akin to Halo or Mass Effect. For any game developer out there who is looking at the monstrous task of creating an original universe to build a game in, I've already got the lore angle down and hammered out, including concept art for some of the many different races. I've even had a theme song composed for the franchise. As I continue to write books I'm building piece by piece what I intend (and hope) will be a franchise that is structurally on a level of Star Wars, though obviously I can't make games and movies on my laptop. It'll probably be many years before my books get popular enough to attract the attention of game developers on its own, but I'm impatient and posting here just on the off chance someone who is in need of lore to base a new game off of is perusing these boards. Star Force has potential, but it's impossible to explain in a post. If someone reads this and wants more information feel free to ask. |

Interesting. Could you send me a message of some of this lore. Id like to read some and if possible make some concept 3d models based on it |

Hmmmm, I tried to find out some information on your book 'Star Force'. Sure there are a lot of games out there already with the title Star Force, and with the sub title Star Force and finding your books (congratulations on the 12), Im just wondering what kind of game you plan to create based on the series? Surely you cannot cover all the material presented in just 1 game. If I were you, id pick an aspect of something you wanted to do within the series, possibly even a side story that doesn't involve Kyle, yet something that broadens the universe. I know its tempting to want to put out something long and amazing, but that will take years, and a highly dedicated team with management behind you. The rewards would be tremendous if you managed to pull it off in quality to a Halo or ME esc game, although i do believe the odds are stacked against you. The book covers do a fair job of presenting what the universe may look like but there is always wiggle room. Books with brief descriptions for anyone interested in reading |

You're right, 'Star Force' is a somewhat commonly used term rather than a trademark. In fact, you even referenced the wrong books. Search under author name Aer-ki Jyr. My series has 88 novella-length episodes published, which is about the equivalent of 25-30 novels. And you're right that it's not a 1-fit story. There are literally hundreds of different games that could be made given the complexity of the lore, for it doesn't have a main character and the empire that is built in it could be fashioned into almost any genre of game. As far as making a 100 million dollar game first off, that's probably asking a lot, but original ideas are getting rarer and rarer and developers need to keep content flowing, so it's a juggle between finding something original and badass to make and just finding something to make to stay in business. I'm pretty sure Star Force is sufficient to fill that niche if anyone ever takes notice of it, but as you mentioned, it could easily get the universe introduced to the gaming community with something much smaller than a AAA game. |

Your right, Star Force is an incredibly common name, and accidentally finding another book series with that name makes it all the more confusing. 25-30 novels is impressive well done. So if a AAA game is a little beyond the horizon at the moment, something that plays modern but feels nostalgic (indie vibe), something that takes 8-12 hours to complete (completionists excluded)? An actual adventure involving your lore or a handful of mini games that are inspired by you universe? |

Generally speaking the hardest part is establishing a brand / reputation. There is a reason why AAA studios make Battlefield 100, COD 200 and Starcraft X. So congrats for having already done that. But as people rightly point out, targetting AAA immediately out of the gate is a stretch unless you get a publisher on board so you can get a decent sized team. So perhaps start small see how your fans react and grow from there? -- Scott Reismanis |

Thr111 wrote: The lore is split up with multiple threads, characters, races, etc similar in structure to the Star Wars Clone Wars tv series. It bounces around a lot, so there are a lot of possibilities. Star Force has 5 branches to its military: Naval, Aerial, Commando, Mechs, and Aquatics. Each of those could spawn a game. Colonization is a huge aspect, and during the WW3 phase the moon is populated by national colonies that get put under a Star Force blockade and abandoned by their parent nations and they have to secede in order to survive, so there's an economic/empire building game right there. The main grind of the franchise is Star Force vs the V'kit'no'sat, and the V'kit'no'sat are a superior race that dominates the center of the galaxy. Earth was one of their frontier colonies that got abandoned during a rebellion and a few Human slaves were left behind that became our ancestors. We find a buried pyramid in Antarctica and learn the truth, that we're not supposed to exist and if they find us they'll come back and exterminate us for some complicated reasons I won't go into. I'm writing the backstory now, but at the end of it the big conflict begins when they come back. Oh, and by the way, the V'kit'no'sat are the DINOSAURS. And right now dinosaurs are hot property with Jurassic Park killing it in the box office. I hear even the old Dinoriders cartoon is going to be made into a movie. And I can guarantee you that the V'kit'no'sat make Jurassic Park look like a petting zoo. It'd be easier to list games that couldn't be made in the Star Force universe than to list the ones that could. The potential is there, the people with the deep pockets that make these investments just have to find it. |

Well im glad that the dinosaurs are finally getting the respectable remake they deserve. Star Trek did a piss poor job representing an advanced dinosaur civilization, Dr.McNinja was pretty good though. If the universe is truly so grand that anything can be made from it, then your most likely feeling paralyzed by the possibilities instead of being freed by them. I would almost suggest something like Angels Fall First, or even Star Craft, or a combination of those ideas to go with your war. The problem is if you do want to make something like those, then it has to be better then it has to be better to pull the dedicated audience away from that material. Saddly unique ideas and gameplay don't always make people want to go out and try it. It could just fall under the radar, or be killed by critics before even being released to the public. But if I was to tell you anything, Its make a game that you want to play, not a game that you think everyone else wants to see. Your love for what you do will show in your work, and the same is true for you lack thereof. |
