About Us:
Hello there. We're a team of a few friends looking to make new friends while working on an interesting mod. We're located in Southern California, in the San Fernando Valley. If you're willing to help make an amazing mod, please do not hesitate to contact us. We're also planning on working on more projects after this one. If you're interested in becoming part of a hard working team to mod with, drop us a line.

About the Mod:
Title - Sole
Setting - A desolate city filled with infected.
Genre - Sandbox Survival Horror
Players - Solo/Coop

You play as one of few survivors who are immune to the outbreak. You have no idea what is going on as chaos spreads around you. Your only objective is to survive, using all the resources you can to do so. Along the way, you might even run into more survivors and help each other survive.
(The above is subject to change)

We want to focus on the playability of the Source Engine. A massive selection of weapons and ways to protect yourself from the infected hordes. We want the mod to actually be challenging, meaning ammo, weapons, and supplied will be dynamic, and the enemies more cunning.

We're looking for help in the following areas:

  • Models
  • Compiling
  • Animation
  • Mapping
  • 2D Art

You know why there are no large open-world sandbox environments like GTA and its ilk on the Source engine?  Because it's not possible without severe and frequent loading zones or extremely compromising content quality.

What Ennui said. Move it to the Cry-Engine.

The reason people don't do it is because they haven't planned it out properly. I know our team's limits pretty well, thank you. I didn't say it would load or play like GTA or anything of the sort. I said SANDBOX, meaning open exploration. It has nothing to do with large scale rendering. The method we plan on using for the the zones is well within the reach of the source engine.

100 percent interested in mapping and other assorted goods for this. I've been discussing a sandbox zombie survival game with a few friends. This fits criteria and i wish to help.

No, the reason people don't do it is because its a pretty big technical hurdle with Source. Unreal is a much more capable engine for this project, IMO.
But if you wanna persist with Source, you're going to run into some fairly decent problems to deal with. AI for one, a sandbox world semi-implies large open space but even if its not, I can still forsee some technical issues with getting this to work. Source maps really aren't that big, so the 'maybe you'll come across other people' thing seems like a fairly irrelevant idea...

Yeah i agree with Wraiyth and Ennui; i don't think it'd work well on the source engine and you should switch to Unreal.
The source engine wasn't built for sandbox games. (yeah you could say oh well and do it anyway, but you'd suffer in quality from it.)

You're going to have a difficult time doing coop in the source engine.

You need a full team and haven't done much so you should switch before you waste time with source.

Or stick with source; its your project not mine.

I won't tell you not to stick with source anymore, but why pick source?
