Well Things are different in each game. I can do mods for Half-Life e-zly... Indeed. But most guys who are used to mapping in Hammer or Worldcraft and modding for half-life get stuck when they meet with UnrealEd. The map-making system for example, is completely different. Hammer is simpler, but in UnrealEd you dont get that LEAK! LEAK! LEAK! thing... Good work soldier. -- Damn! It´s Payne! Get him! |

As long as you people can do almost half the work on your own, i think that is when you can try and start a team. just my 2 cents... |

That was quite good article there ShortCutMan. Couple of years ago I was a totally n00b in modding scene and I was asking help for my "mod" with that newbie style at some forum. I didn't get any help. But anyway, I started doing stuff, I drew textures and made maps using them(which I have now wiped out, because they sucked). And now that I've been modding for couple of years, I've became a person who has learned "everything". And now I'm doing a mod in future, with aliens and vechicles! I don't need Coders, Modelers, Sound Techies, Skinners, Texture Artists, Webmasters, Mappers, Beta Testers, because I can do all that by myself. If you do not want to join please do not email me! hih... - Edited By Jimi On Fri 13th, Feb 2004 @ 9:00:35pm -- Quote:How about I give you the phonecall and you give me my finger! |

ShortCutMan I think this should be in the "welcome" section for all new folks (like me) to see so that we can avoid posts from people like Eine askign for an entire development team to do all of his work for him.
Since I'm here, I had this really cool idea about a mod with puppies and kittens and maybe an Uber-Mouse as overlord. Taht's as far as I got but I need somebody to host it, a database designer to set up a gigantic db, 24-30 web artists and graphic designers. Also, maybe someone with a whole lot of money to give me so I can go out but a new computer as I'm using a cell phoen to post to these forums. -- It's too funny that the earliest I can go for my birth year is 1971. I was born in 1967, I guess I'm too old for even the extreme edge of this envelope. Oh well. Have another Absolut Raz n Diet 7 Up |

Here's a tip that I thought I should add, sorry if it's been posted before: Half-baked pencil doodles done during math class really bug me. Even if you're not good at drawing, please people, get some blank paper, even printer paper, and take the time to actually draw out your sketches. |

Concept art isn't really important to mod-making, so long as you have a good idea of what you're getting at, and convey it well. For it's the model that gets into the game, not the pretty pictures. Edited by (in order): Karuto, Karuto -- "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster." |

Yet it seems that most people post only concept art for about a year, and then expect people to come flocking to model them. People only want to model something that looks good, therefore, your concept artwork should at least be done semi-well. If you can't draw it well, get a friend to blast out one or two one minute sketches. If you can't do that, try your best, at least. Spend as much time as you can on it before you feel that it really is "done". |

Just wondering but in a large forum what would be the best 'Topic Title' to catch peoples attention or do you still just go with the boring 'Looking for a Modeler' title? EDIT: This is for when you start a topic requesting help that is. Edited by: Grogdon -- "If they lock it up it means they expect someone to steal it. I just do what they expect of me." |

"Rapidly-progressing RPG seeks Modelling Talent" does sound good, and more eye-catching than "Looking for a Modeler" --

Does sound mighty good but what if your mod wasn't rapidly progressing? -- "If they lock it up it means they expect someone to steal it. I just do what they expect of me." |

Then you should be doing more work yourself, or in your current team to get more work done and out too also get peoples attention, and give them the feeling that the mod is going to go somewhere. Try not to recruit a team at the start, do some things yourself. |
