Hey there! I'm part of a new Reddit gamedev pick-up-group working on a unity game deeply inspired by Yoot Tower (Sim Tower II), with a bit of an RPG twist. Our team thus far consists for three programmers, two game designers and a sound editor, and we're looking for a few artists to join our ranks.
Our team is currently made up of people from the GMT, PST and EST time zones. We've made a fair bit of progress with the GDD and programming already. We intend to publish for the various Steam platforms, and potentially for mobile devices.

Expectations
This is not a paid opportunity, but we will be issuing "shares" based on your participation and the length of your involvement in the project, which will translate directly into a cut of any profit the game makes, should it be monetized. As this is for now a passion project, we don't necessarily expect daily progress, but we do expect you to keep in touch via our Skype group chat.

What we’re looking for
We aren't completely committed to using 3D assets, but it does seem like the use of models would make animating businesses and tower visitors a lot simpler.

Available roles:

2D Artist - Character portraits, event illustrations, GUI, etc. (Business & tower assets?)
3D Artist - Character models, business/establishment animations for shop open & close, tower exterior, etc.

About the Game
The game uses a side-on view with a 2D perspective, and the vast majority of it takes place inside the tower, or in its immediate vicinity. The play area is made up of the Towers many floors, which will grow in number. Floors are occupied by businesses the player designates, which have Open and Closed animations (or occupied/unoccupied for housing).

Art Assets
As to whether we'll be doing our assets in 3D or 2D, it really depends on your skill set and what you find the most efficient. Ideally, I'd like to do 3D rendered stores with 2D illustration for the character portraits/event notifications and UI, but nothing is set in stone yet.

Art Style:
We're shooting for a semi-realistic cartoonish aesthetic, somewhere between something like Fallout 2/ shadowrun returns and something a little less anatomically accurate, like Star Command for iOS. As for the actual asset style, that would depend on what you're comfortable with. I'm open to seeing work evocative of graphic novels, more photorealistic, or more abstract art (IE Pixar) to see what feels right.

We'd want the style to be consistent across our assets, so it'd likely be a collaborative decision primarily between the artists. The game has a serious-ish tone, but drifts toward the silly side occasionally as with fallout and borderlands.
