The usual suspects for me - System Shock 2, Undying, AVP1... and Terranigma. I'm gonna have to dig it out and see if it has aged well or not, but that had a few moments that were far scarier than a 2D SNES action RPG has any right to be. -- "lets say Portal is a puzzle game, so its a rehash of Tetris" |

I'm a wuss when it comes to scary games, so even the first few fear levels scared the hell out of me. Especially those where you keep occasionally hearing Alma's laugh, or you'll be climbing a ladder and see her standing above. Other then that, I suppose some parts of Doom 3 were pretty scary, though that kinda gets old quickly and loses its tension. --

There was a part in fear where Alma crawled/ran at you in a air duct and when she was a foot away steam blew out of a pipe next to you and she disappeared behind it. That was a frightening moment for me. Back in the day I was pretty scared by minecrawlers in Gothic and Half-Life actually had it's scary moments. |

Well I personally find the ghosts of pacman really really scary. Shit I can't even play that game. And the way how that mouth of pacman opens and closes. Scaaary. Oh yeah, and both AVPs are only ones that give me the jolly good shivers. Jericho was sucky, when it comes to scary. It wasn't scary at all. Just boring. -- Friendship is like peeing on yourself: everyone can see it, but only you get the warm feeling that it brings. |

I shat bricks every second of the way through System Shock 2. Honestly, I built an outdoor toilet with them. The sound in that game, as I often rant about to my friends, is terrifying. BRB reinstalling |

I found some good scary moments in Eternal Darkness for GameCube (though I can't recall any episode in particular). System Shock 2 must be the creepiest game on the planet. I remember playing that with my old broken screen (pre-plasma). It had the habit of fading to black in it's final days and I couldn't see anything properly, yet the game sucked me in. Still one of the best games around, with the addition of pumping up your adrenaline on scares. |

I'm so sad that I can't run my System Shock 2 anywhere. I always get that direct 3d error. EDIT: Pac man. Scaary. Youtube.com Edited by: Whizzard -- Friendship is like peeing on yourself: everyone can see it, but only you get the warm feeling that it brings. |

Just thought, many parts of the Thief series (and some of it's fan missions for that matter) deserve mention in a thread such as this -- "lets say Portal is a puzzle game, so its a rehash of Tetris" |

I guess only AvP managed this so far. But only back in the days where I started out with games. So far nothing could scare me simply because I see in games always the technical side ( oh... they used this and that technique |

The bit in Thief 2 when you're in a secret passage way in a mansion and you walk towards the the secret door to the library and all you hear is spooky voices.... gave me the chills first time around. Doom 3 and FEAR aren't necessarily scary but they definitely had their share of jumpy moments. |

im a big silent hill fant (up to 4 that is) And i have never been as uneasy and panicked as i was whenever there was a "Ghost" character near by. in silent hill 4 there was a monster that would harm you if it got close, it also had a mellee attack. They were dead bodies that floated like being held up by a series of loose strings, They were very fast and made a sick noise. on top of that they could not be killed and could move through walls, so there was no running away from them. |

I would say STALKER is the creepiest game I have played, mainly because of those freaky underground facilities. All wrecked and decayed and inhabited by those freaks with gas masks that crawl around like animals. And that one place with the mind control guy - when he appeared down that corridor and made that pissed-off "AARRGGHH" noise I shat all over my chair and legged it up the ladder out of that facility so fast man. And then having to return to that location later on for another quest and knowing that that weirdo was still down there somewhere because I hadn't killed him the first time wasn't a good feeling.
