For not taking heed of the warning he was given when his forum posting permissions were reinstated after the first time he was temporarily banned! Basically, he started once again with his usual non-relative and general BS posting habits which 99% of members found extremely annoying the first time around. ;)

The phrase fml.

If you say this on a regular basis. No, scratch that. If you say it ever you deserve a shitty life.

lol... It's like Americans use words like "Bad", "Wicked" and "Sick" when something is Awesome, Cool or whatever! So basically, you have to check your own use of words before you judge how we Irish and Brits use ours! Muwhahaha! XD

Your are right there Orion. Same with pronunciation like, aluminium is pronounced al-you-mini-um not aloo-minum. Haha :D

Well, now would be a bad time to say that the evolution of our words' definitions will be kicked into hyperdrive with the invention of the intertubes ...

Coincidentally though it probably means that there will be more uniform meaning of english words (but not really pronunciation of said words ... weird)

It's like how you spell it "colour" in English, and "color" in American.

Two populations who happen to speak the same language, but are so different in culture, life style, etc... and then there's the Australians too.

Anyway, this is one of the questions that have been bothering me for a long time.
How did americans and australians got to adopt the english language?
Didn't the original english originated from england?

I know the brasilians, macau (china), and few of african coasts speak portuguese, because portuguese have been there in the time of the conquerors.
But I don't know how americans speaking english came about?!

I also know that the english tried to take over america but failed miserably...

Anyone care to clarify that for me?

Think of it this way... England conquered Ireland one day and brought the language to us... Then the Irish fled the famine here at the time and soon Dominated America not long after the continent was discovered (Okay, maybe a hundred years later or something!).... So 2 + 2 = 4..! Simple as that! At the end of the day, if it weren't for us Irish, America would probably have Spanish or Portuguese as their national language these days! lol.

As for Australia... Well... all the blame can be aimed toward the British there from when in 1770 James Cook claimed what is now known as "New South Wales" on behalf of the British King at the time. The rest of the Continent was claimed by other British commanders over time since then. The ties that bound Aus to Britain officially ended in 1986 but yet the British Flag (Union Jack) remains part of the Aus flag to this day! (God knows why! lol) [/HistoryLesson] lol.

short version: Europeans (mainly english, especially in the beginning) who were not pleased with their countries emigrated to the south-eastern, north american coast; which at the time was populated by native Americans (type that in google images i'm sure you've seen them).
After suffering through many hardships they colonized the entire coast and spread westward across the entire continent.
When they got all the way to the western coast a number of asians started coming in from the far west, across the pacific.

Yeah, I think I'll do just that.
Need to brush up on my history a bit.

There are so many interesting things in history...
Back at school seemed so boring. But then again, I just want to know what I want to know.

It's different when you WANT to know and it's interesting to you, instead of having someone trying to feed information into your brain that you don't want to know and it's irrelevant to you.

Most African countries speak Portuguese or French. But with South Africa aswell, they speak "South African English" which is similar to the Brits, but they include words like "Braai" etc into English.

WAT? I always thought England conquered America and the spread of ideas prospered, mainly the English language, but then America got the declaration of independence to seperate from England and now everyone's happy.

Lol... No one "Conquered" America! It was first discovered by the Italian Explorer Christopher Columbus on behalf of the Spanish monarchy (duh) and the natives of the continent at the time were naive to say the least and opened their arms to the new comers. From then it was more or less anyones land and was later populated by many traveling from mainly Europe. Most of those who traveled/migrated to the Americas later on were from Ireland and also England.. But mostly the Irish whom as I said, were earlier enslaved by the English and learned their language by no choice of our own. Then of course when the Irish emigrated to the States during the famine, brought the English language with them and it evolved over time to be the main spoken.

Geez... You guys really need to brush up on the History of your own Continent! lolz... (Thinks to myself... Why do 1 in 2 Americans claim to have Irish Heritage? Hmmm... Maybe it has something to do with what I've said above! :D )

Lol yea, true I suppose.... maybe I should have added "Per se" to the end of that particular sentence! Of course there's a hell of a lot more too it! Actually, come to think of it, what the natives of the US went thru and how they suffered etc. at the time was quite similar to what us Irish suffered at the hands of the British over 800 years ago... The only difference really is the fact that the US natives Welcomed the new comers at first but were soon rewarded with slaughter and enslavement among other horrible acts etc... Us Irish never gave any kind of Welcome what-so-ever to our new comers etc... Ah, But anyway... History is history! lolz. Lets not dwell! ;)

To tell you the truth, i really don't care about American heritage. I only care about Canada.

In fact, the only reason i thought that before was because of the battlefront mod for half-life.
