hiya!

over the last few weeks, I have experienced backlash from allowing the community to upload images. they're spamming the page. so much so, I actually have to moderate the images individually and remove the "bad ones".

frankly, I can't stop images. Minecraft is about community and creativity, and every image deserves it's place due to the huge amount of creativity that can be achieved in the game. however, it's unrealistic to moderate the images like a hawk.

so, would it be possible to consider selective updating sendouts? like, someone uploads a picture of their water tower, and instead of instantly informing everyone, it informs no-one. you can see on that link what people think of the current updating system when allowing community updates.

later that day, a moderator uploads the next trailer to their game, and as they're a moderator, it updates everyone. that's the sort of system I'm talking about.

I personally see it helping to improve community-game/mod relations for high-traffic games, and games still in development but released. a great example is the Gmod page, which shows how bad the current system can get, and how this feature would wipe out all the issues with that game too.

Thoughts?

one last thing I forgot to add. uh, by spamming the page, I mean, spamming it with good things. but, not update-related things. such as that update linked.

To be honest Kizzy that would go against the whole point of our site, if you want to monitor the uploads you will have to do it the old fashioned way. What we might be adding once we get more time is categorizes of galleries so all user uploads go here, official uploads go here and WIP go here etc. For now you have two options deny everyone or monitor it yourself.

Ah, ok. I understand how it would go against the point of the site in ways. but to allow the community to add images, and maybe even make it optional to receive these updates on the user's-end could help those wanting update news to get that, but without the huge amount of community uploads affecting them. just to separate community enthusiasts and game enthusiast's interests in a way both would like.

We are looking at ways to make this work for Desura so its already on the plate, you just need to hang in there I suppose.
